DVD burner program

So I have a nice big old video file and I have a nice new DVD burner.
I want to toss this onto a DVD that can be read on my parents stand alone player. I just need a really simple program. It doesn't need menus and options and what not, just make it play the file.

I downloaded a trial of Nero but it doesn't look like it will let me - there's a variety of options (many grayed out) I'm trying one now but I'd like some options. Thanks gents.

Edit: and no I don't think Nero is going to let me.

Hmm, it says "video compression used : XVID "

I honestly don't know what the straight file extension is, there isn't anything there.

Avi2DVD is supposed to be good. It's freeware too, which is nice.

If you get lucky you may be able to read the file on your/your parent's DVD player without conversion, but it's hard to know without trying it. I have 2 DVD players, and the newer one is able to understand divx, xvid, and avi.

They usually say DivX compatible somewhere in the box or documentation. If you don't have those, google your product number.

do you have to convert the videos' format or just find a program that will burn the video clip in the XviD format?

If you want to convert it you can use WiliSoft Video Splitter. It's free.
This http://www.softsea.com/ has different programs listed so take a look through that.

Nero can do what you want, but you need the full on complete retail version to do so. The OEM version (and obviously the trial) doesn't have the ability to recode video files into DVD video format.
