There's a hundred different types of art, and they're all made by artists, artists who believe their work is important. Sometimes they believe it is singularly important, the most important thing in the world, the true panacea to all of our problems.
But my question is, who believes that the most?
Up for the title we have:
-
Literature: Whether it's Dante putting all of his petty nemeses in hell or John Updike writing yet another story about an attractive young woman who falls in love with her middle aged English professor, writers have been doing this for years.
-
Fine Arts: What proof do you need beyond the self-portrait, really? But before that truly came to prominence in its own right, you have Michelangelo using himself as a model for St. Bartholomew, Clara Peeters hiding herself in a still life, and the whole entire bizarre psychosexual thing going on with Caravaggio's David that I do not have time to unpack right now.
-
Theatre: Every narcissism of a writer and then some - when the play's the thing to catch the conscience of a king, isn't that just showing off how important plays really must be? Or in modernity, you've got your Noises Offs and your Producers, plays about the production of other plays.
-
Movies: The heavyweight contender here, we all know how well movies about Hollywood do in award season when they get voted on by other people who are also connected to Hollywood. We've got your Mank, your Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, your La La Land, and we go from there all the way back to Sunset Boulevard.
-
Television: Much like movies, but on a smaller and significantly more drawn out scale. Who doesn't love the antics of the crew who are tasked with making a weekly TV sketch or variety comedy show? Am I talking about 30 Rock, the Dick Van Dyke Show, Studio 60, or The Muppet Show? Who knows!
-
Videogames: I actually don't have much for this one. Like, I'm sure there's a Game Dev Tycoon or whatever out there, but maybe this is what keeps videogames from being true art?
-
Music: After love, one of the most popular things to sing about is music itself. Joan Jett loves rock and roll, Billy Joel is more of a piano man, and Barry Manilow writes the songs that make the whole world sing.
-
Other: You have to explain this one yourself, I cannot do it for you.

I don't think all fine arts are narcissistic, but I think the people that do the really fart-sniffy avant-garde stuff are entirely up their own asses. Regular paintings and sculptures and stuff are cool.
that was the question right?
What's a regular painting or sculpture?
See this to me feels more like pretentious than narcissistic
Both can be true, naturally, but that's a distinction I would make
and the girl he was attempting to argue with just kept on laughing at him and knocking back shots, and when b.fa dude got to his "well I guess if you're not willing to debate me then you concede that I'm correct" shapiro-esque moment, she just kinda said "uh-huh" and threw up all over him
What a jerk
specifically, the subgenre known as "selfies"
Even when movies aren't about Hollywood, they're about Hollywood.
See:Inception, Menu

The art of selling yourself short
***DO NOT GOOGLE AT WORK OR SCHOOL IT REALLY IS JUST PORN***
I did consider including the art of the deal as an option
A selfie of Narcissus
That's just money laundering like regular art.

Yes, I know way more artists that undervalue themselves than overvalue.
I think I'm leaning toward movies, if only because movies about making movies is also considered award bait
She has since taken over our living room and calls it her “art studia”
She goes in there to put on stick-on earrings and kid makeup and then rip up junk mail into pieces and then tape the pieces colorfully onto other pieces of paper and then demand we mail it to grandma as her Christmas/birthday/valenstines present
So whatever the most narcissistic form of art is it’s the opposite of that
