Hey, what sort of Slot 0's will you have? (If any) The inclusion of Greyhawk this year is making me want to go to PAX again for the first time in a while.

Slot zeroes will occur starting in mid-July and will include everything but the Delves. I'm not sure where all the slot zeroes will take place -- but they can be anywhere there is a table of at least three (3) PAX Judges and PAX players to fill out the table.

If you are interested in judging the judges Yahoo group is at:
    http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/PAXRPGAJudges/

Request membership to the group and I'll let you in. Details on rewards and slot zeros are starting to appear. Actual times and places will pop up in mid-July.

Player registration will take place on Warhorn. The URL is:
    http://www.warhorn.net/pax/

Expect registrations for players to open later this week (Friday or Saturday).

Are you offering a D&D for beginners? I don't see it on the signup site.

Almost all of the events are well-suited to beginning players (The only one that isn't is CORS7-3 Into White Plume.)

First off there are the two Delve events. These are walk-up and play events running for the entire convention. Come up and play either D&D or the new Star Wars rules in a deathmatch dungeon crawl to see just how many critters you can hack or blast away in 20 minutes.

If you want more than a simple room, encounter, room, encounter... dealio, there is also plenty of great stories kicking off at PAX.

If you want to play Living Greyhawk, the 2-round Ruins of Discovery is a great place to start. We'll have pregenerated LG PCs to pick from onsite, and the adventure is written specifically with challenges for first-level PCs. Once you pick or create a PC, then start a brand new story arc and adventure into the original D&D dungeon, Castle Greyhawk.

If you want to try the new Star Wars Saga RPG, SWDD-1 Prelude to Defiance is kicking off a series of mods that take you from 1st to 20th. It is also made with 1st level PCs in mind. Be a young jedi... and take on the universe... in the first of a series.

A fan of Forgotten Realms? We have a whole series of adventures from the Undermountain mini-campaign. This time you get to make a 4th level PC or pick a ready-made option... and crawl into the depths of Forgotten Realms biggest dungeon.

Eberron is a cool new setting that features a sorta cybermagic feel, with war forged metal beings in the mix. Try out any of the Xendrik Expedition mods -- once again, pre-gen PCs are available to make it easy to sit and play. This campaign allows you to enter at 7th level... and be within 1-2 levels of the most experienced players at the table.

If someone brand new want to play the whole convention, here's a schedule I might suggest and have a full sampling of what the RPGA offers.

    Friday
Show up early and work on your PCs for the weekend.
Slot 1 - Sample the two Delve events, D&D and Star Wars. Earn some prizes.
    Slot 2 - Undermountain 1 - The River Sargauth - D&D/Forgotten Realms

    Saturday
Slot 4 - Star Wars SWDD-1 - Prelude to Defiance - Star Wars RPG
    Slot 5 - Living Greyhawk - CGR7-1 Part 1 Ruins of Discovery - D&D/Greyhawk
    Slot 6 - Living Greyhawk - CGR7-1 Part 2 Ruins of Discovery - D&D/Greyhawk

    Sunday
    Slot 8 - Xendrik Expeditions - EXP-5 Shargon's Rage - D&D/Eberron

    I hope that helps.

When you say "good for new players", do you mean people new to RPGA events, or people new to the games themselves? I've always wanted to try the Star Wars RPG (and indeed was at the opening party way back) but never had any interested friends, and so never got the chance to play. Would I be able to participate in the event with my relative lack of experience? I have played various 3rd-edition D&D computer games, so I'm not completely ignorant of the basics, but other than that I'm completely new.

The Star Wars system is so new, you'd be on even-footing with anyone else at the table. The Star Wars Saga Edition rules were just published about two month ago (not even). There are likely to be people with the same skill level as yourself at any table of the Star Wars game that goes off.

I ran this one recently, for three people who had read some of the rules and one person with no experience at all with Star Wars. With a pre-generated PC and some instruction as we moved along... the brand new player had a blast and felt integral to the success of the table.

If you wanted to, you could even come to the table and create a PC from scratch using the campaign guidelines with some assistance from the Judge and still have plenty of time to play this event.

Star Wars RPG was always fun, I highly recommend it. Combats are fast a furious and the role-playing is always enjoyable.

    Oh, one more question.

For the Prelude to Defiance event - to complete the event, must one register for all slots? I'd love to do it but am not sure I'll have the fortitude to game from 3 PM to 1 AM non-stop, plus I want to go to some Mechwarrior games at the convention. Is each slot a self-contained event, or is all in one giant event?

Also, how come there won't be any Urnst mods at PAX?

Hmm, yeah, I'm a little confused on whether or not you can just register for single sessions of any of these games or if the numbered events (ex.: D&D Undermountain 1, 2 & 3) require you to play all of them, in order.

I'm definitely going to register for some of these games, but don't want to commit for more than 2 slots because there's so much going on I want to check out.

Ditto. I kind of need to know how this thing works so I can decide whether to do this or the Mechwarrior game it conflicts with.

You only need to sign up for one of the Prelude to Defiance slots. It is the same module repeated many times. The link below should have the character creation information.

You can play just one of the UnderMountain games if you like. Those that play all three may be able to get enough experience to get to level 5 before playing the third part.

August is a busy month. We just a had a big NorthWest gaming convention August 10-12, Dragonflight. There was a lot of RPGA there. There is only 6 slots and and lots of new content. There will be open fiesta each evening. Maybe if you run a module from The Pale one night, a local judge can run a Duchy of Urnst module the other night. Join the duchyofurnst Yahoo group or the Open Fiesta Yahoo group to plan some thing. I am running modules in all but the last slot so I do not think I will be able to run a Duchy mod but I will check into it.

Awesome that it's one module. I'll definitely be there - I want to make the 3-8 slot but I might miss it depending on how long the line to get in is. If I can't make that I'll go for another.
