We are discussing how someone could print 5 different covers of his magazine, then basically dismiss the ingenuity of PA (but not completely - that would be bad business), then summarize his writing by saying he almost hopes the magazines with a Penny Arcade cover don't sell well so he can prove to his friend that the comic really isn't as popular or funny as everyone thinks.

i disagree with the article BUT, while I haven't actually done this I definitely would buy every item they sell as well as go to every conference thing.

PA is great, but the author of the article seems to have a point in that PA seems to enjoy a much broader fan-base than those of its equivalents.

The comics are very entertaining and the authors are great at using a very particular sense of humor to get the message across... but a lot of the times I feel like the word "overrated" is a pretty good fit for it.

it's not over rated, it's just actually funny.

and you can't downplay the value of the newsposts. pretty much that's why I come, comics are a bonus.

and I'd say 1/3 makes me laugh very hard.

It might be worth discussing the disconnect in talking shit about a website that you've just decided to feature prominently in your magazine.

I mean, clearly PA is popular, or they wouldn't be giving them a cover (or 5) in the first place. It just seems odd to do all of that, and then write a fairly scathing dissertation on why PA isn't all that great (and compare it to a comic that is somewhat universally laughed at for being banal and unfunny despite being successful enough to keep running all this time)

Also, we frown on magazine scans around here, because as a general policy we try to be friendly to those who are trying to make a living selling their product. So I edited out the link from your post.


I'm not locking, because the search for a redeeming topic in this post seems to be progressing OK.
