This thread is for all things Diablo:
...the originals by Blizzard North, D2Remastered, Diablo III the infamous Immortal, and especially Diablo IV!
Please feel free to ask questions, share stories and items, plans for new seasons, hopes for new content, and so on!

DIABLO IV!
How to join the clan, The Merch Hungers.
HexDex wrote: »
1. Joining the clan is a multi-step process. Once you request to join, I or an officer have to accept your request. Then you will get an invite that you need to accept. You wont auto join once you have been approved.

2. You have to opt into quick join in this game. It's not on by default like D3 so your friends/clan mates cant just jump in.

Still have a bunch of people who have requested the invite, but have not accepted it!

Season / Battle pass / Shop post:
https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/diablo4/23816415/diablo-iv-quarterly-update-august-2022

Classes
  • Barbarian is able to use 4 weapons, and can switch between them based on skills.
  • Sorceress can enchant two of their skills as extra passive effects.
  • Druid freely shapeshifts based on skill usage, and can specialize with animal spirits to augment their build.
  • Rogue mixes both blades and bows, can imbue their weapons, and specializes in combo points, energy regen, or cooldowns.
  • Necro will have minions that can be sacrificed for bonuses, some classic bone skills, and some fresh blood and even damage over time skills.

Legendary items & Aspects
  • Items can add ranks to skills, going past the cap or providing a skills you don't have.
  • Legendaries provide benefits that can roll on almost* any “rare” item, be claimed from a dungeon as an Aspect, or extracted from an item by the Occutlist. Then you can imprint the aspect onto another rare item.
    * Legendary powers are found/imprinted by category on the following slots:
Defensive - Shield, Helm, Chest, Pants, Amulet
Offensive - Amulet, Weapon, Gloves, Ring
    Resource - Helm, Amulet, Ring
Utility - Shield, Helm, Chest, Amulet, Gloves, Ring
    Mobility - Amulet, Boot

Campaign / Endgame:
  • The campaign only needs to be completed once, and Lilith statues only need to be found once. Statues map: https://d4builds.gg/map/
    ---
  • World tiers (initially two) allow you to raise the difficulty of the game in return for more reward. Tier 3 has sacred items and uniques, tier 4 has ancestral items.
  • Nightmare Dungeons: there are keys that will bring a specific dunegon area to higher level, with modifiers. These will allow you to level Glyphs, which are kinda like legendary gems in the form of a passive skill you socket into the paragon board.
  • Helltides: From world tier 3 on, a map region can be consumed by a helltide, empowering the monsters and allowing them to drop Cinders, which can be used on chests scattered around the area to receive a specific reward, or a mysterious chest with multiple items: https://helltides.com/
  • Whispers of the Dead: Sorta like bounties, events scattered around the world worth 1, 3, or 5 favors on completion. 10 favors can be exchanged at the Tree of Whispers for your choice of a loot cache.
  • PVP is available in a select few zones. It is completely optional and only provides cosmetics.

Gameplay
  • Large, open map with world events and other players. Dungeons are solo or party of four.
  • Controller support confirmed for PC, including option for Bottom-Left or Bottom-Center action bar

Noteworthy game options:
Sound
- In-game Loot Sounds can be turned off for all or certain types
- You can raise the threshold for loot sounds to occur from Common to Magic/Rare/Legendary/Unique
- You can enable sounds for ambient loot (which I think means if you left the area and walked back it would play again)
- Error dialog can be replaced with a noise, or turned off entirely.

Gameplay
- Channeled skills can be turned into a toggle
- You can reduce strobing lights if that's a concern
- Advanced tooltips can be enabled to show property ranges and whether they are additive/multiplicative

Controls
- On PC, movement, basic attack, and interact are all on left click by default. You can disable that and set them individually, or rebind the basic skill and enable “move and interact” on left click.
( Note that you can swap between KBaM and Controller seamlessly, at any time, just by using it )
- Controller lets you lock-on to targets by tapping right-stick (AMAZING for kiting playstyles)
- Likewise, “Persist Target Lock” will automatically lock onto something in your next pack of enemies

Social [ and Clan! ]
- Cross platform play can be disabled, but it locks you out of the Clan feature
- NPC dialog can be removed from the chat box
- Local chat is joined by default, but you can leave it
- The "Clan Member Comes Online" notification is off by default
- Quick Join is off by default. Some of us used this a lot in 3 so it's good to be aware of.

Accessibility
- Screen shake and combat hit flashes can be disabled
Diablo II: Ressurected
It's actually happening happened, it's out now!! Same game mechanics, new graphics, along with increased stash size, an auto-pick gold option, and controller support!

If we are going to be pedantic instance layers aren't "matchmaking". Technically.

Right, but me seeing few people, again, isn't because there are 2-3 people in my "instance layer".

There have to be at least tens of thousands of people on simultaneously that are in WT1 Act 4ish like I am. This game is stupidly popular -- I'm not seeing few people due to a dearth of population in my "instance layer" or whatever terminology you prefer. Like there were 3-4 people on my personal friends list at the same state of the game yesterday -- I'm confident those 3-4 people don't make up 100% of that "instance layer" total population, or 10%, or .01%.

And I think that's awesome! Give me less people -- it would be cool to be able to pick that, but eh not a big deal to me. I got it due to whatever matchmaking RNG stuff is going on, and I'm cool with that even if it's unintended.

At least if you're in campaign mode, I'm thinking the overworld is phased as fuck. Last night I came across a rando fighting some trash while I was running toward my next unexplored area. I helped kill what they were fighting, and they ended up proceeding in the same direction as me. When I got to the next mini-zone (whatever you'd call each area that opens up on the map when you discover it), that person just disappeared right by me. Poof.

So, regarding the quick-join, you still need to be friends, not just in the clan? Because I haven't been able to right click on a name from chat and join them yet.

Yeah, exactly! This is what i was trying to express. I didn't see many people -- which is fine with me -- and it's related to something going on with their phasing. There are so many people playing that there's no way it was because there are only like 10 "compatible" players that can be in the same phase as me -- it's not that everyone but like 4 people are done with WT1 as was suggested earlier -- just that for whatever reason, the phase I was in didn't have very many people in it out of the pool of total compatible players. It's not a big deal at all, some RNG is definitely involved, and over time I'm sure I'll see a bunch of people.

It was great to go 30 levels wandering the over map only seeing one or two xXSSJWeedLordVegetaXXs, even if I was maybe supposed to see more.

I did WT1 then switched to WT3 last night. When in WT1 I rarely saw people in the world, and prob 5 or 6 people in Korvoshad. Now I'm in WT3 I see people in the world much more often, especially around Lilith Shrines and in regional towns.

TBH, I like that. I don't mind being in a clan necessarily, but I do not like people just hopping into my game session. Period. I definitely do not want that to be gated purely by "am in clan with yes/no", and a simple "disable" toggle is also not what I'd want. (Maybe I have a short-list of friends I'm okay with, that kind of thing.)

  • fortyforty Registered User regular
The "enable quick join" should have two options. One for friends list and one for clan.

Run whatever makes sense for you, have fun. D4 isn't going anywhere, no need to play at 100% efficiency at all times.

For me, my order of importance is definitely: NMD's, Helltides and then Whispers in that order.

e: To clarify, because Helltide's are a timed rotating event, if one is up, I will go start it as soon as I'm done with my current NM. I'll grind it for it's uptime, then go back to NM's. The mats are really important for upgrading higher tier items.

I figured out how to get the mat dropping elites to spawn in Helltide's. When the meteors start dropping, get hit by two of them. The second one will spawn the mob. I wonder if multiple people do it, if multiple will spawn? My guess is yes.

You are seeing other players in the game precisely as often as the devs want you to. There's no shortage of any kind, tons of people are wandering around every zone in the game at all times. The matchmaking is their system of choosing when to reveal one of those players to you. I'm not sure how it works behind the scenes, there do seem to be relatively stable instances in PvP.

It seemed to me that the open world was more sparsely populated during the campaign than it was afterwards. They mentioned during development that they intentionally want the world to feel sparse because it's Diablo.

OK so I hit 50, unlocked WT3. After a couple real rough first dungeon runs, I've got some basic WT3 gear. At what point do you upgrade armor for +armor with subpar stats/skill bonuses over one that's got a couple decent ones?

Like 5% better, 10, 20%? At what point does sheer stats/item level outweigh losing a couple ranks of your core spender or even worse a helpful imprint?

It really, really depends, but by the 50's I was focused entirely on correct stats and good imprints. It's almost never worth losing a well rolled item with a good legendary power for a few armor or iLvl.

I think the exception here with a caveat is your weapon. Get the most damage you possibly can and it'll make life much easier. The secondary affixes are also very important but generally if it's high damage and the stats mostly jive with your build it'll run smoother than lower-level but BIS affixes. I've found a couple of good wands and focuses but my damage output is just lackluster compared to a really well rolled 2 hand staff I've had for a good 5 levels now.

  • DacDac Registered User regular
Man I must have gotten obscenely lucky with getting a 710 staff at like 52 because I haven't seen anything that high an item level since and I'm 61 now.

Sorc isn’t clicking for me. I’ve tried 5 or 6 different builds. Some of them are okay, but none really feel like super great. I think it’s a combination of being mana starved all the time and all 4 of the builders feeling like shit to cast.

So I’ve begun the search for a new main. Yesterday I tried a bit of rogue, which is the one class I never played during any of the betas. I went for daggers/melee and it felt pretty good. Nice and quick and speedy. I also grabbed poison trap and at least at very low level (8 or 9) it seems incredibly strong.

Tonight I rolled a druid. Tried both werewolf and bear. Bear was fun because Pulverize is just insane. But it’s really slow feeling too. Wolf was quicker and a bit squishier of the two, but I think I liked it better just because it was so quick. I got to 14 tonight on druid. Picked up Rabies right at the end and tried it a few times, just on normal mobs. Hard to gauge it’s value on such low health targets. I need to try it on a boss or a big elite.

Tomorrow I might roll a necro and take that for a test drive. I played it in beta and liked it, but that was pre minion nerf.

Anyway, my sorc is parked in WT3 but I’m just not really enjoying her so I’m on a quest to find a new main.

Turns out when you enter a PvP zone in a lower world tier, it tells you your "combat efficiency will be reduced." I wish they would just do that for everybody so maybe it can be fair. When I farm the PvP zones in WT4 I'm now getting ganked by people 10+ levels above me, and I can't touch them. I suppose I don't have to feel too guilty about slumming it in a lower tier if that scales me to the cap of that tier.

theres literally no way to balance the pvp in this game so i think what they should really do is just make it so u have a 10% chance of instantly dying when u kill somebody else, and thats scaled by the person u kills lucky hit modifier. the more they stack it the luckier they are the more people come to kill them and randomly die

    are u feeling lucky?
