Okay, it seems that I've never ever updated windows and still have service pack 1. Should I upgrade to service pack 2? I don't really want any of the stuff that it offers, I just wanna update certain programs I use. Can I selectivly install stuff? How's the upgrade work? And what's all this window varliadtion shit?
No, you cannot selectively install stuff, but you can disable most of the 'big' features that it incorporates that might change the way you have to operate your PC.
The upgrade is a large file download which then applies to your Windows installation.
The Windows validation is to make sure that you are running a genuine copy of Windows.
just install it, seriously. MS doesnt' even support SP1 anymore. and application compatability was taken care of like, a year ago, and SP2 offers so many improvements to XP that's it's stupid to not have upgraded yet.
I hated it too when I first installed it, but after a couple months you realize how much better it really is.
