PAYDAY 3 is the much anticipated sequel to one of the most popular co-op shooters ever. Since its release, PAYDAY-players have been reveling in the thrill of a perfectly planned and executed heist. That’s what makes PAYDAY a high-octane, co-op FPS experience without equal. Step out of retirement back into the life of crime in the shoes of the Payday Gang, the envy of their peers and the nightmare of law-enforcement wherever they go. Several years after the crew’s reign of terror over Washington DC has ended, they assemble once again to deal with the threat that roused them out of early retirement.
The legendary Payday Crew, dreaded by the law and underworld alike, is back. Ripped from their peaceful retirement to rejoin the criminal world by a new threat, one born from the chaos the Crew left in their wake. In order to identify and crush this new threat, the Crew is leaving their Washington DC roots behind them and moving to New York City. A new location will bring with it new challenges, but also new opportunities for a heister with a plan.
Give outlet to your greed and let loose in PAYDAY 3. In addition to gold, cash and jewelry and any other valuables they might come across, you’ll be able to build a sizable collection of weapons, cosmetics and accolades. It won’t be as simple as showing up and gaining goodies. You’ll have to work hard and plan smart to get away with as much loot as possible. Gain experience, unlock new skills and gain proficiency in weapons to steadily grow your power to handle the tougher challenges.
A professional heister knows it takes planning, hard work and a good amount of luck in order to execute a successful heist. In PAYDAY 3 the choice is put in the hands of the players, deciding how to tackle the heist, whether you sneak or go in guns blazing, whether you let your hostages go or keep them around as pawns, whether you go at it alone or bring friends. The choices are endless and in your hands, they will vastly change how the game plays.
Not just anyone is worthy of standing at your side for something as important as a heist. Likewise, PAYDAY 3 is best enjoyed with close friends in mind, whether you bring them from your childhood or make them along the road. The PAYDAY-series has always valued the bonds made through hardship and tries to reflect that in the actions and words of our heisters while in the game, and through our community while on the outside.
After a decade since the release of Payday 2, the third entry in the series is finally here. The main upgrade is the new engine, which uses Unreal 4 letting the devs keep versions consistent across platforms, allowing for cross-play. An upgrade to Unreal 5 has also been stated to be coming post-launch. At launch, there will be a total of
eight heists all set around New York City and New Jersey. Post-launch plans for the first year are to bring the total up to 12 through four DLC heist packs.
Also, Denuvo has been removed prior to launch.

Pros: the combat is way smoother. You can slide, vault, shoot grenades out of enemy hands, take hostages as shields. You can move quicker in casing mode and have more options before you go loud. Gunplay sounds and feels great.
Levels are big and fun to explore. I never felt like I was being rail roaded or had my hand held.
More customization is good, you get lots of trinkets and stickers and gloves and suits to unlock.
Bot companions frequently drop ammo and armor and health packs.
Cons: Match making is awful. You can only search by heist and difficulty, meaning in a month when everybody has leveled up, new players will never find a lobby. There's no quick random mission lobby. And as far as I can tell you can't just jump into another heist with a good group of randoms, you have to start all over.
Progression is tied to challenges, which I haaaaate. I don't want to have to get 20 headshots to progress to the next level or level up a weapon.
New skill trees have 3 new buffs to focus on, Grit, Edge and Rush. Now you have to time these small buffs during combat/stealth and it feels like an MMO almost. I don't really want to watch expiring buffs to be effective at higher difficulties. Maybe it will feel better when I have more practice.
You have to level up skill trees now? I dunno I didn't get to play with it much.
You have to buy favors like ammo drops ahead of time now rather than in the mission lobby. Hope you stocked up!

I didnt notice leveling up weapons being tied to challenges... but I also didnt look. I was doing the one night club mission and it went sideways and me and one other guy stuck around and finished it off, lots of killing happened and the starter rifle jumped up a ton of xp due to use.. but maybe I had done a bunch of challenges..
Levelling system seems fine, you start with 4 trees unlocked, Medic, Ammo, Mower and Infiltrator. As you get xp the other 12 trees get researched and unlock (last being CQC)
If you have the root talent picked like Medic, you will get XP within the Medic Tree until it all unlocks, but you only have so many points to plug into the various perks in the tree (not sure what the point cap is) so it gives you a fair bit of customization in your build. It goes by pretty quick too, at the end of my playing yesterday I had Ammo and Mower fully unlocked and all the rest of the trees were available for me to start working on.
Lots of weapons and cosmetics being hidden behind your level seems kinda lame, but the old random chance of Payday 2 could also really suck at times too.
Mask and Weapon customization seems to be more limited than in PD2, but you can get different outfits (though many are just pallet swaps... ) different gloves, etc etc.
I am enjoying it, but they will need to add some sort of quickplay option, where you queue up for any mission within a difficulty level.

Also, how's the netcode once you're in a heist? These buddies are an ocean away.

Seemed to be ok to me, I played a ton of matchmaked games and didn't witness any rubberbanding or wonk like that. Its crossplay so I had Xbox and PS people playing too
Stealthing missions has been rather hit or miss, lot of random screwups. Concealment is gone, so blowing stealth isn't an instant restart.
Run into a couple bugs, got murdered by a cloaked through a wall my bots ignored, had two of them get stuck under the world, and some item glitches.
Hopefully the mm system fills up a bit after the real release date
One of the problems is I started to play it on the switch. I have all my gear and such on steam I don't on the switch I have no idea how you get the silent blades for the saw.
I was ok at stealth but I really just ran backup for my brother whom was nearly perfect with it going loud on the other hand I was a tank
Time will tell if finding a good club of randos can work out in the absence of widespread voice chat. Discord is great and all, but bad for coming across new peoples...
Also not great to hear about the MM, because even in PD2 as a late comer to that I was lost on what missions I should have taken.
I imagine they'll patch up matchmaking to someone similar to the old crime.net. There's no way they can keep it as is, it's legit awful.

The VIP card on the nightclub mission has a tendency to despawn when you validate it, which removes your ability to get in unmasked.
You can't jump/mantle while unmasked, which really limits your movements on a few maps.
If you're trying to exfil bags through a busy thoroughfare, and by chance alert a dozen or so civs, the server will likely hang and disconnect you after you ziptie 8-9 of them
Had several maps crash at rather annoying points, just as I'd gotten things under control
A few of the stealth bag exfils seem to assume you never masked up, which means you can't remove any guards, or CC any civs. Sticking the van on the other side of an outdoor cafe is just mean.
Level based unlocks seem a bit dodgy. I can't pick the ammo bag, it either isn't there at all (loadout 0), or says "unlocked at level 2" (rest of them), despite being level 30ish. Not sure if getting the first 3 levels via tutorial maps is related or not.
Some of that seems like they strongly expect you to have the "cameras don't notice me unless I'm doing something explicitly illegal" perk.

Of course, I'm not real sure what the path past that looks like, as there isn't a great way back down to the vip room to take advantage of the distracted bouncer. He comes up rhe stairs on the direct route, and the other route is run back around the front, dodge 6 cameras, the civ in the break room, and hope the other bouncer, bartender, and civs in front of the vip door don't see your masked up gun toting psycho...
Haven't cleared that one quiet yet. Came close once, had the server and a number of bags secured, but alerted a civ or 10 checking other vip booths, and then the server crashed when 15 civs tried evacuating through one door.
I see that it says it's a butcher pack item with the blades but I really forgot how you get it is a drop or?
I really need to clean my joycons. My brother and I were doing deathwish level stealth runs as he was that good just not having the silent saw does cause it to less perfect
End of heist cards
Continental Coins
Precise reward from a side job - pick special weapon, OVE9000 saw, motor, and it's a 50/50 shot.
I'm completely the opposite, I don't need to hear some mouthbreather hot mic the entire match, or shit all over another player because of a mistake or start spouting whatever hot take they decide is worth bringing up. Voice is nice.. with friends. Randos can be silent.

I know the comic is referencing Monaco but the sentiment still holds true . Super pumped to play this with my old heisting crew, but happy to group up with anyone here. I ran the tutorial to see the new mechanics and did the first bank heist with randos on my lunch (they tripped the alarm 10 seconds into the mission, natch). Map was slick and well designed, looked like there could have been some cool stealth stuff if we hadn't gone loud right away, gun play felt very good and punchy, and I love power sliding all over the place lol.
Yea managed two matches earlier but matchmaking is stalling out now.
I was just about to come here to say, yeah, I managed to run a mission earlier on my lunch, but I had like 40 minutes before the rest of the family gets home so thought I could run it again and yeah, just sitting in matchmaking queue forever
edit: found a tweet, seems like something got royally fucked on their servers
how the hell does twitter even work anymore, I click on their @paydaygame thingy and there is fuck all for recent posts.
It goes by likes or engagement or something dumb and useless use https://nitter.net/PAYDAYGame instead.
