Let's get "Knocked Up" "Superbad"

Anyone want to discuss the two Apatow movies coming out this summer?

I loved "Freaks and Geeks"

I loved "Undeclared"

I loved "40 Year Old Virgin"

How can this go wrong?

Oh and "Pineapple Express" (a brand of mega-weed) is in development.

Knocked Up was fucking hilarious! Makes me wanna go have sex with without birth control and enjoy the comedy and love that follows :) I kid, the move was one of the best so far this year. I cannot wait to start quoting from it as my friends are tired of me quoting from Napoleon Dynamite and lame Will Ferrell films.

It could go wrong by having humour that doesn’t appeal to frat boys and teen-agers, I guess.

Judd Apatow and Paul Feig (the two dudes responsible for both Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared) have done me no wrong so far, so anything they put out or are even remotely involved in, I will lap up with a spoon.

Knocked Up was brilliant, and I just know Superbad will be right up my alley. Also, they have another movie being made called the Pineapple Express or something. James Franco and Seth Rogen. Described as a stoner/action/roadtrip movie, it is promising because Rosie Perez gets her vajayjay punched in.

Paul Rudd is pretty much the highlight of any movie he's in. Umm, yeah.

I love Apatow. Pretty much everything he lays his hands on turns out awesome.

Honestly, I like that it's obvious he never got over Freaks and Geeks being cancelled and he just continued to pump out movies/a show with the same charm and a lot of the same actors.

And Knocked Up was fucking fantastic.

edit: Yeah, Rudd is awesome. I kinda wrote him off after he was on Friends, but he's done a lot of solid stuff since then. He was fucking great in Knocked Up.

    Yup

Michael Cera's involvement with "Superbad" was the reason he did not reprise his role as the Resident Assistant in Season 3 of Veronica Mars (from his and "Maebe's" guest appearance in Season 2).

A favorite scene in Arrested Development was when Cera asks Maebe is she wants to watch a VHS of "GIRL DETECTIVE SHOW FROM ANOTHER NETWORK", an episode that hit right about the same time as their guest appearance.

It's funny to me how much they fuck with movies when editing together a trailer. So much of the funny shit in Knocked Up that was in the trailer is so much better in the film, and with Superbad, you can even see the difference just between the normal trailer and the R-rated one.

I kinda wish they'd not make movies less funny in the previews, it seems counter-intuitive.

    liked undeclared.

didn't like 40 year old virgin.

    won't see knocked up.

can't wait for superbad, simply because of michael cera and the other lead whose name I don't know. sera for arrested development, and the other guy for being EXCELLENT in Accepted and Grandma's Boy.

edit - there was funny stuff in 40 year old virgin, as I'm sure there is in knocked up, but ultimately I thought it was too long witha lot of jokes that didn't connect for me.

So...you liked F&G and Undeclared, but won't see the movie mostly starring those actors, and more in the vein of those shows (half funny, half very true to life)? I'm confused.

I can understand not caring for Virgin, but seriously, Knocked Up is fucking amazing.

I'd say it's better than the alternative of showing all the best parts in the trailer and having nothing else worth watching.

It seems more like he hates that the movie is pretty goddamn accurate than the movie itself. Having been terrified of responsibility and deathly afraid at the prospect of having a goddamn kid, and also being married and sometimes wondering what the fuck I'm doing, it felt very fucking true.

I get that he doesn't like the fact that many of the characters are selfish idiots, especially at the beginning, but most people are selfish idiots, so I'm not sure I see the problem. I'll have to check out the rest of this site, I wonder if I agree with him on any other movies.

Reading further, I see that now. But after reading the comments, I maintain that this is a terrible fucking review, that this woman seems like exactly the kind of woman I cannot fucking stand, and that she's reviewing American society rather than the actual movie.

Hell, the way she responds in many of the comments makes me wonder if she even watched the whole movie.

If you actually think this you really should hie thee to Netflix and get the first disc of "Freaks and Geeks." Seriously. Apatow's stuff is nothing like the "National Lampoon"/"Sorority Boys" stuff you're evidently thinking of. It's like you have two movies about relationships in New York, and one of them is "Maid in Manhattan" and one of them is Woody Allen's "Manhattan" - similar subjects, completely different approach.

40 year old virgin is not nearly the quality of freaks and geeks in that respect, though. freaks and geeks was a great and unique take on high school... most closely comparable to Wonder Years imo.

40 year old virgin was a romantic comedy. pretty straitforward, barring the fact that it's specifics (them being, ya know, a 40 year old virgin) were somewhat fresh.

I dunno, the fact that the movie ultimately is about a huge geek who decides to wait until marriage to have sex? I mean sure, those things exist in the movie, and maybe that's enough, but American Pie/Shitty National Lampoon College movie #30 it was not.

no it wasn't, but it did do very well (iirc, I don't know where to check numbers like this, but I've not met a kid my age who hasn't seen it or at least heard of it). I mean, not to put it down, but it's not like it was some intellectually challenging comedy or as though any of the humor was particularly subtle or hard to get. it was a slightly different mold but really a fairly similar movie.
