Buying a DLP tv (used)

Ok, so i just moved into a new house and i'd like to get a big screen DLP tv. I don't have too much to spend, so i'm wondering if there is any store (online or walk in) where they sell tv's either used or at value. I used to work at best buy (and i'm thinking of going back) b/c i know they offer a great discount when you work there. That might be a better deal b/c its a new tv --- but i really wouldn't mind a used tv if it was a good price and there wasn't anything really wrong with it.

Your thoughts and recommendations on this are appreciated =)

I'd suggest Craig's List, though I'm not 100% sure on how they handle fraud and whatnot. I'm sure people will be able to help you with that.

It is almost always cheaper to get from some random schmo then from a store, even if it's used. I've heard of people getting awesome deals from people who just want to get rid of old shit.

DLPs have lamps that need replacing every couple of thousand hours. Make sure you know how many hours are on the lamp of the TV you buy, and be prepared to spend another $400 or so to get a new lamp if you have to.

Craig's List is great, but you're on your own.

Buy DLP’s used is problematic enough due to the aforementioned lamps burning out early and not being covered by warranties. Buying one used is a horrible idea.

Hitachi 50V500 -- i just picked this up used from a guy for $700.

We tested it out and his house, and everything looks great, it even came with the stand for it. Anyway, i noticed that the entire screen has a brownish hue to it. He had a dvd player plugged in and was playing tomb raider and than finding nemo. The picture is great, no splotches or dead pixles or crazy red clouds.

Anyway, i'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to figure out why its all brown. Could it be the composite plugs are shitty? Maybe its color settings? (But i seriously doubt it.) Thanks for the help!

Colour settings could do that, sure. Are you sure you're using composite and not component? If you're on component, then as long as you don't see any damage or anything to the wires, you'll be set. If you're on composite, the signal you're using is such shit that with a TV like that I'd insist that you go out and buy a proper set of cables immediately.

I know that component is definetly a better image, but would i really effect the color that much? i guess there is only one way to find out, and i do plan to pick up some component cables for my Wii later today.

    wait no don't

    www.monoprice.com

$5 for a Wii component cable. Seriously, just order all of the cables you need right now, it'll be like $40 in total with shipping rather than getting like 2 cables at a store for that price, if that.

I'm not even kidding, never buy cables locally. And they ship to Canada and the US so really you can probably buy from them.
