We started watching Kite Man (also how crazy is it that there is a Kite Man tv show?). A bunch of voice actors have been changed from the Harley Quinn show, and Golden Glider also got a complete redesign in look and personality. In Harley Quinn she was quite timid, but here she's like the villainous equivalent of Bird Girl from Harvey Birdman.
Also Bane is a main cast member, and another main cast member is voiced by Nadja from What We Do in the Shadows.
Episode 3 is very NSFW though. For violence and nudity. At the same time.
It was good to see...
Baby Doll from BtAS
...in something again, though.
My wife and I were pretty bummed by the show honestly. It still ends up going ok but I was sold on the show partially by how weirdly charming Golden Glider was in the Harley Quinn episode she appeared in and its jarring how much that didn't carry over. That combined with the frankly... much more male gazey vibe of the whole enterprise was very sad.
Monthly subscriptions to Disney Plus with ads will jump from $8 a month to $10. The monthly Disney Plus ad-free tier will increase from $14 to $16, and annual ad-free plans will rise from their previous $140 price point to $160. Hulu’s ad-supported tier will rise from $8 / month and $80 / year to $10 / month and $100 / year, and monthly ad-free plans will jump from $18 to $19. ESPN Plus’ $11 / month and $110 / year plans will now cost $12 / month and $120 / year, respectively. And people subscribed to Disney’s basic and premium streaming bundles will also see their bills getting a bit more expensive this fall.
Ad-free hulu+disney isn't changing from 20/mo. Not sure why you'd get anything else at this point

That's the point, they're trying to push people to the bundles because you're less likely to cancel-and-return-later if there's multiple channels on the bundle.
Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a hefty non-cash impairment charge, or write-down, of $9 billion at its networks division to align the book value of its linear television business with the reality of uncertain advertising and sports rights renewals as the NBA is set to move on.
The value of the linear assets when Discovery and Warner Media merged two and half year ago was significantly higher that it is now as consumers migrated and advertising dipped. That’s across the industry. A difference with David Zaslav-led WBD versus other big media companies is that it just lost a lucrative basketball package Amazon.
WBD had matching rights and is suing the NBA to get the games back, but no one seems to think it can prevail. Zaslav had indicated early in the renewal process that the company didn’t absolutely need the NBA, but the lawsuit calls the loss a massive blow, which can’t make investors feel great.
It's also neat how he can assume control of a wide and deep media empire and survey it all and then seemingly say "huh, why do we make 9/10s of this, we could just make reality TV shows," which I shouldn't be surprised by I guess but somehow I am.

Reginald Hargreeves is in the running for Most Awful TV Dad, in my book. He literally does the worst thing possible for his kids at any given moment. It's insane how horrible of a parent he is, to such a degree that a talking chimpanzee and a robot are more affectionate to his kids than he is. Bad Dad to the 1000th Power.

Disney+ will be introducing “continuous playlists”
• Seasonal Content
• Pre-School Collection
• Epic Stories - Collection of action-packed stories from Marvel & Star Wars
• Throwbacks - Collection for nostalgic pop culture content
• Real Life - Lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true crime
“continuous playlists” sounds too wordy, maybe some single word can work..
I actually think channels are a super smart addition to any streaming service, I make use of the Shudder ones with some regularity.
Weird that it's coming when I still repeatedly get frustrated by Disney+ not having any sort of autoplay functionality for when I'd prefer to put on a show and fall asleep to it though.
Boy, that's worth the increase in subscription and extra ads - the chance to see that something that I haven't chosen to watch is available to watch
Something I've been thinking about this week is the concept of a show or movie being "poorly marketed." When something good flops, that's the default lamentation - can't believe studios dropped the ball and whiffed the marketing.
I have literally no idea how anything gets marketed well any more.
Audiences have resentment for ads and seek to avoid them entirely. Simultaneously, audiences are beginning to resent the very act of discovery - being exposed to something not chosen is considered a negative.
How's anything supposed to penetrate anywhere, ya know? How do you get audiences to show up to something new when they are walling themselves into little (increasingly self-referential/self-consuming) media silos?
Feeling a bit pessimistic about entertainment this morning, I suppose.

I agree with you. It feels like I'm firmly out of the targeted demographic, by age at least, for the majority of stuff that is coming out, but I also just don't see that many advertisements to begin with. I don't watch live TV (other than sports, which are entirely prescription medication marketing outside of the Super Bowl), I don't go on social media (other than these hallowed forums), so any new stuff I hear about is through individual relationships and friends.
Though, even with all of that, I feel like there is far too much television and movies I want to watch that I'll never get around to because I don't have the free time.
It feels weird to simultaneously think there is too much shit for me to watch and that I'm missing out on a lot of shit to watch.
Amazon has gotten to the point of advertising their shows on the packaging of physical goods they ship because that at least can't get adblocked.

I don’t claim to be an expert on marketing, but I think the problem is, people are receptive to some ads, and most of the time, self promotion don’t earn any direct marketing, but at the same time, it feels, a lot of the time, the number of ads we are shown as consumers are obnoxious.

Truly the most stable law in this series, sewn into the very fabric of the universe, is that Reginald Hargreeves is the worst father possible.
