Fixed - Skype Microphone issues

I am about to take part in a very important skype conversation, and am having some trouble with my mic.
I have not used it for anything else, and haven't used skype before.
I have tested it by phoning echo123, but the volume of my voice is very low, it sounds really high at my end, but I imagine that's because I have headphones on, plus I can here myself speaking.
I have set the mic at maximum level, is there any other way I can increase the volume?
Edit: Apparently the front line in is much louder than the rear one on my PC....
