"Any time after blank" does feel kind of vague but when I've used that framing in the past (before I realized it could cause confusion) I always meant that starting from, say, 1:30 was fine
I think they connote the same timeframe but 1:30 to end of day is definitely more clear
Don't overthink it, is my advice. If you schedule for 1.30 and it turns out they were burying a secret message in their communique that meant "actually not 1.30" then, presuming this is a grownup, they can decline or request a reschedule off their own bat.

Every time I end up in a new place and describe my job to some local person, they're always blown away that the company has a department like mine.

Schedule the meeting to start at 13:31 to be most technically correct
You joke, but I have set alarms for 12:01 pm so I don't have to deal with "noon or midnight?".
12:00 shouldn't be an option for alarms. When you click the little wheel up one from 11:59, it should just say "NOON." Or "ARE YOU SURE MAN" if you were about to fuck up and set a midnight alarm.

I was required to come into the office today because Apparently That's Necessary for me to attend a company -wide teams call. But no seat was allocated for me on the seating planner
So I'm sat way over there behind a corner. Definitely not clearing my cases in 90 minutes then titting about on my phone for the rest of the day.

I have done our little cleanup process on about 100 Macbooks so far. The things I've noticed?
- We need to lock down who can install what addons. Holy shit there are some bad ones people are using!
- No, you can't use that app, sorry. Privacy issues.
- MacBook cases are disgusting. The plastic covers that clip on? Dirt and dust get under them and just cake everywhere. Compared to the ones not in cases, the cased ones are filthy.
- Intel Macbooks are incredibly slow compared to the M1s. Both same model year, but I can tell which ones will be done quicker just by the processor it has.
- Why are you signed in to your personal account and your work account on the same browser and then complaining that we might see your personal stuff?
- No, seriously, you don't need that app.
I hate those people, just write out the issue and send it to me!
About the only plus point is that during the stand-up he'll mention that he had some questions for me and that we had a productive conversation and he subsequently fixed his issue. So I come out looking like a good senior engineer.
I just wish I could get it through to this team that you can have asynchronous conversations.

Finance sends us monthly spending reports. They have been organized from most recent month to oldest month for a fiscal year since I started, which is, like, annoying because my own tracking sheets are chronological, but whatever. One gets used to reading it backwards and filling in the corresponding data.
Until this month they finally decided to run the report in chronological order (with no notice), which was quite the mindfuck early in the morning before the coffee kicked in. Just sitting there comparing the two sheets like what the fuuuuuuuckohiseethanksiguess.

I realize you're probably not in a position to drive policy, but OH MY GOD let me tell you about the wonder that is MOSYLE for managing Apple Devices.
We went from a horrendous free-for-all to locking down all the bullshit apps and extensions.
And you can just have a nice little software portal for them to click and install stuff they can have! And you can customize it per building/dept/etc so you don't have to have all your approved software for the whole district available to everybody.
iTunes is fully disabled across the board! No more personal account bullshit!
Mosyle! I don't work for them but I'll still shill!
Jamf used to be the gold standard but they were on top for so long they've gotten real lazy about new features and staying caught up and now Mosyle does lots of stuff Jamf doesn't or does worse.

We have Mosyle! It's a weird setup here... we're a Google school so the students all have Chromebooks, but the teachers all have MacBook Airs (and us techs get Pros, neener neener!). Mostly it is locked down, but staff come to us all the time about adding apps on and like.. nah. New Hampshire has really strict rules on what can software can be used with students, and if the companies aren't willing to sign agreements that they won't sell data (which most large companies won't) then we just can't use them.
For the most part this can be fine. Most of what people are doing will be done through the Google apps on Chrome anyway. But we have a whole design lab downstairs that uses different things that had to be vetted. No big deal! Makerbot signed the agreement, Arduino did too, as did Vernier, Shapr, and Texas Instruments... we can work with it. But then you want the ChatGPT app on your device? Fuck right off.
The extensions are a bigger deal for me, honestly. I've really been pushing since I started to lock down Chrome extensions and only allow certain ones. We have some that are installed by default of course, but there are very few that are just forbidden and that's a big problem. I've been fighting to add uBlock Origin to our list of auto-installed and to lock everything else out without specific requests but it's been a losing battle so far.
As far as Mosyle itself goes, I haven't actually gotten access to that. She has our duties split up which I don't mind terribly. I do a lot of the MacBook support, in the moment stuff, and I do Google Admin and AV support in the building. But Mosyle she's hesitating on a bit I think because the setup they have is a mess. They started using Mosyle a couple years ago right when she started here and the person who did the setup created a lot of groups. As a result the whole system is kind of a mess and one of the things she's been trying to focus on is cleaning it up before she starts training me on it. Again, fine by me, I can do most of the other work I need to without it.

Ugh. I've looked longingly at Mosyle. We use JAMF (because it's what our parent company uses and we're stuck working with a sub-instance of theirs) and it's... fine. But it's a fucking dinosaur.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
I have been watching Figma Config in between meetings and they showed up a few cool updates and a whole ass powerpoint replacement but it's really being dragged down by the "AI is here" part of the show. literally the only AI part that anyone clapped for was the "rename all of these layers" feature.

Found out that a large collection of colleagues from my previous job got laid off. Really gutted me as a portion are on H1B's and have been in the country for close to a decade ( DHS backlog means permanent resident is only 20+ years away ). I can't imagine trying to find a job in 60 days under the stress of having your family being deported.

Oh yeah, any DM solution is gonna be a mess to clean up if you're not the one that set it up. One of my complaints about Mosyle is that all of certain emails go out to all Admins, regardless of the rights they're granted. Not everybody in the district needs to know about the VPP tokens for other schools are expiring, for example. Makes a lot of sense to get it cleaned up before bringing more people in.
It took my team years to be able to get extensions locked down, so good luck on that front.

I was at least able to talk my boss into letting me suspend teacher accounts who didn't get their 2FA set up on time. Though in this case it was more of a:
"Yeah those four that didn't do their 2FA like you and I kept emailing? I just suspended their Google accounts."
"Hahaha wait really?"
"Yeah"
"You should maybe ask first but also hahaha good."
I have faith I'll be able to wear them down on extensions. So many are real threats, and they do things that are totally unnecessary. We have to vet all the software, we should do it for these too.

I think part of it is that a significant fraction of people either can't read, can't write, or both; so they see written communication as inherently less reliable.
Which is just *tons* of fun for those of us who see non-written communication as inherently less reliable because there's no record.
