Maybe silly question about pets and the eclipse?

I tend to look at shit people share on social media with a healthy amount of side eye. But I got to thinking recently with some of the stuff I saw about our pets, particularly our dogs.

Our house is sitting at like 99% totality for the upcoming eclipse, and we're heading north to a friend's driveway to be in the 100%. This means we won't be home and we have two dogs. One gets terrified whenever rain is coming (he's good at forecasting), and the other scared of loud noises. The eclipse is weird for a lot of animals so I'm wondering if it would be smart to bring the dogs with us, or to just cover up our windows and hope for the best? I honestly don't know either way, so I'm turning to the hive mind here.

I don't think a dog can tell the difference between an eclipse or a cloudy day, especially if they are inside.

Yeah, there's no sound or atmospheric changes that a dog would be likely to notice (like you would get with thunder storms). Leave the windows closed and don't worry about it.
And, on the minute chance they get weirded out by darkness in the middle of the day, it's only lasting 4 minutes. Much less than Fourth of July fireworks or a rain storm.

Or, bring them to the eclipse party. Eclipse parties, like most parties, only get better with the addition of dogs.

Dogs can't look up, so no problem.

The AKC days there's no issue with the eclipse, more likely to be issue with change in routine like you leaving at a different time or having a party. Or course some animals are more bothered than others.

I would cover the windows and leave some lights on just to minimize the effect.

Thanks all. I wasn't sure (in hindsight the AKC would have been a good place to check before) and I know some wild animals act weird so my brain went a bit screwy. Not sure if we're going to bring the doggos still but at least we're not going to worry about them freaking out.

    Thanks!

I hope you enjoy the eclipse! I will be up there for it as well. Hopefully the weather is cooperative.
