Here is a neat Youtube! Guy talking in a normal voice and cadence with good camera work rebuilds a blown-up turbocharged Hayabusa engine:

Just spent an hour in an uber and at first I was like noooooo the guy wants to talk the whole time but we actually had a good conversation

also I'm back in my college town, feeling a little like a 'back in my hometown' moment. I'm staying in a cute little apartment airbnb and very curious to go poke around town during the day tomorrow

How dare you try and shame me into getting around to uploading and posting puppy pics, you monster

Also it's always fun when you look at the clock, see it's after 1am, think to yourself "Oh ok, I'll go to bed soon", and then look at the clock again 5 minutes later and it's after 3am.

    stupid time space continuum betrayal

Speaking to the New York Times Friday, Oranchak said, “The message in that cipher. I don’t see it as being helpful to them. It’s more of the same junk that the killer liked to write about. It’s just intended to hurt people and make them afraid.”

imagine putting in all that effort and being all "oh yeah but it actually is useless garbage lmao"

I blew the dust out of my PC today.

For 3 years without doing it there was very little dust in there. New cases with dust filters do serious work.

I mean, yeah no shit? Why would Zodiac actually put anything in there that would actually incriminating in there? Use the letters to taunt and distract the police while building up your own mythos.

Zodiac wasn’t a mastermind, he just lived in the age before mass surveillance, cell phones, and DNA science

He was just a wacko who wanted to be famous and it was really easy to get away with murder back then

assuming that murderers are going to work rationally is silly

but moreover, the information he might have been putting in would be stuff that only himself and the police would know to actually verify that it was him because there was a spate of copycats claiming to be the Zodiac after the first letter

An astonishing number of early serial killer cases were facilitated by the fact that moving two towns over and going by a different name was enough to defeat the investigative techniques of the time

Also by the staunch unwillingness of police to investigate this white guy they had a beer with one time

the trick is he knew some cryptography which is something that can make you appear very smart

but yes i'm reminded of that Mulaney bit about old timey bank robbers shooting their names into the wall with tommy guns and police still not cracking the case

I assume serial killers have always been around. But that in 14th century europe they could just walk around and rack up 800 bodies until they died at 32 from a toothache, and nobody even understood that someone was killing people.
