IGN has an article that asks who Lego horizons is for, saying it might struggle with kids and adults. I’m like, adults buy Lego games. And the horizon Lego set was one of their most popular the year it was released. It seems like a slam dunk to me
My son (6) has watched me play the Horizon games on a few occasions, but they are too scary, intense, and require dexterity he doesn’t have for him to try playing on his own. But he loves Lego games so I’m sure Lego Horizons will be a hit with him.
I'm personally burned the fuck out on Lego games so this is a pass for me. Also still haven't picked up the sequel even though I enjoyed the first one.
I waited until the SGF thing was almost over so I could fast forward past the boring parts or when a game didn't look interesting. Felt like I blew through the whole 2 hour show in 10-15 minutes. I almost skipped over Sam Lake, but I had to backtrack for that wonderful bastard. Pretty much immediately bought that deluxe upgrade for Alan Wake II after that trailer.

Thought it was a rad show.
Appreciated Geoff's messaging. Everything flowed well. He's really been doing a good job with the whole thing.
Lego horizon adventures looks absolutely delightful, I love that the Lego games are seemingly adopting the animation of the movies, and Ashley birch getting to flex her comedic chops as Lego aloy is delightful
If this leads to a long desired Lego Thunderjaw set, I'll be very happy indeed. The Tallstrider is one of my favorite builds ever
Lego games from the very first Star Wars one up to Lego Dimensions were all pretty much the same exact core game. Super basic action sidescroller, punctuated by puzzles that required a character with a certain skill. The only recent one I've since played is Skywalker Saga, which just changes up the action to more of a third person action type, but it still has the character puzzles. Overall, dirt simple gameplay (not a bad thing mind you) and pretty funny humor. Obviously for little kids, but adults can still enjoy as long as they're not expecting anything deep.
The thing with a Lego Horizon I wonder is that, ok it'll probably be in that third person action vein. But unlike the other Lego games which can have dozens or possibly hundreds of recognizable characters, All Horizon really has... is Aloy. There's maybe 2 other characters I could think of worth playing as, and I can't even remember their names which might be telling. So assuming it's just a third person action game with Aloy and no other characters or character puzzles, the only thing my brain can imagine it being is just a heavily watered down and simplified version of what Horizon already is. Though I'm sure the humor will be there.
I hope I'm wrong. But if it's just Horizon Lite, I think I'd rather just play Horizon. Or maybe sit my butt down and actually play through FW. Then again considering how so many people say that FW got too complicated for its own good, maybe Horizon Lite is actually a good thing.

I'm excited for Lego Horizon. My daughter (4) and I just finished watching the trailer and she started eyeing up my Tallneck set. So while I'm definitely going to buy this, I mainly hope it results in more Lego sets.
They're about 30-40 minutes apiece. Little bite-sized adventures that either poke fun at Remedy's cliches and tropes or fucking Go Places with the narrative and lore implications.
Yes, short but sweet. Not similar to the Control DLCs, which added major areas and new guns, more like the original Alan Wake's DLCs, that used existing assets to do something more different and out there.
The first episode of the Alan Wake DLC is a real good time for fans of Rose.

I just wanna say again how excellent I think Jagged Alliance 3 is. The new version of X-Com was too cartoony for me, and this one is just the right amount of goofy, including the trope characters and tactical nut shots

JA3 is genuinely fantastic. I'd personally put it above JA2.
As someone who liked Control but hasn't touched Alan Wake, do I need to start at the beginning to have any clue what's happening?
Going from the Control DLC, I gather:
He's a writer, he's trapped by some kind of Evil, and he may have written Jesse into existence to create a hero to get him out.
Starting from Alan Wake 1 would make more sense than starting from 2, HOWEVER, they assumed that a decent amount of people would start from 2 anyway and therefore have both a perspective character who didn't experience any of the content from 1 (so the player is in the same mindset as them) and an extremely good in-game recap as to what's happened so far. So do what you'd like, in this case.
Alan Wake 1 isn't too long of a game (especially compared to the sequel) so if you can find a cheap copy of the remake I recommend it. It's a fun survival horror game with some genuine spooky parts.

Yeah it's a game you can really enjoy on easy, too. So I would just play on easy and have fun with the story and acting.
I'm just throwing in another vote for playing both Alan Wake games. Like others have said, AW1 isn't super long, and it shouldn't be hard to pick it up cheap.
I've stuck them both on my wishlist, and they (along with Hi-Fi Rush) will have to wait for the confluence of them being on sale and me not having current obsessions to focus on (Rebirth is going to be taking up a lot of my focus until I get that damn platinum. I'll get there, even if it takes me all year).
I’m not sure how I feel about that new Dragon Age trailer. Feels like they dialled up the super-camp elements of it, and the character models feel very cartoony as opposed to the more grounded designs of previous.
I always liked Varric’s lackadaisical nature, but I dunno if I want the entire game to be like that, I guess:

How do you think the Dragon Age team reacted to Baldur's Gate 3?
I imagine something like panic. At the comparison their game will elicit, and how huge and high quality and fully featured BG3 is, and the new standard DA will be held to.

Given it's a different genre of game? Probably not that much panic.

Also that's probably why they changed the name.
Dreadwolf sounds very serious, so the potential buyers would assume it's a serious game.
The Veilguard doesn't sound like anything, so they can go goofy with it.
Wasn't it DAI where you had to deal with someone who threw a goat at someone's house over a matter of honor?
And Varric opened DA2 by deliberately enhancing the heroes capabilities (and the women's bodies) before being called out on it.
There's serious stakes, but DA's never taken itself that seriously about them.
The trailer for the new DA game gave me like...fortnight vibes. It felt very much like a trailer for "Modern Game: the Game!" But there also was very little actual discernable gameplay in the trailer so I didn't feel like I learned too much from it. We'll see I guess.

Of course it appeals to kids.

Keep up the good work Geoff!
Well, Geoff Keighley did come out and say "this year is going to suck" beforehand, so no one has been exited for it.
There's a few good ones to check out.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's first person animations really made me sit up and take notice.

God, I can't wait to dive into that. Gonna figure out when I plot some time for it. Any idea how long it is yet?

I've just started it.
I've already belly laughed twice in the first 10 minutes.
This is a good sign.

(Doom: The Dark Ages also coming to PS5.)
I will take this consolation prize and be grateful for it.
Salty and confused by no Visions of Mana. But the rest gave me a lot to me excited about.
So, update, having played all 3 episodes.
