I like both directions. I am not a fan of navigating menus using a paddle controller (reminds me of my first gaming console) or gesture controls. Plain old multitouch for me. And I like having driving info as high up as possible in my field of vision. But for me holo-style displays (HUD) are fuzzy and eyestraining.
Also absolutely loathe touchscreen controls due to being in a cold climate where the touchscreen failed and left me with limited control options for heating and defrost etc until I dropped close to 2k for a new unit
And then the issue where touchscreens have far less tactile feedback compared to buttons and knobs requiring additional time where eyes are not on the road
