HADES 2 IS OUT NOW IN EARLY ACCESS!!!!!!!!!!!! ON STEAM AND EPIC!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Miu_akSity4
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We expect Hades II to be in Early Access development at least through the end of 2024. Given the nature of Early Access development, we don't have a specific end date planned at this time.”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Hades II in Early Access already has more environments, foes, and fully-voiced characters than the full version of the original Hades game. But it isn't complete, and key areas, characters, foes, narrative events, and systems are still to come.

We have been actively working on the game for more than three years already. For our Early Access launch, we wanted Hades II to be far enough along that as many players as possible could have a good experience right away, yet not far enough along that it's too late in development for us to act on the feedback we receive.

You may reach certain points in the game where it becomes clear that you've reached the end of the current content. Furthermore, various interface screens, HUD icons, and character art are still temporary or work-in-progress, along with various other aspects of the presentation.”

IT'S REALLY GOOD!!!!!

I have already had a run where I got to become a murder pinball, bouncing and exploding all over the place. That run got me to within two hits of killing the second boss.

I got the ranged shot deals flat damage + AoE pushback at Epic, quadrupling its damage, and then got the + 2 bounces hammer upgrade so I could stand anywhere and just spam shots that would bounce and home their way to any enemy while keeping them far away from me

Hades 2: Oh no everyone is hot, again!

I’ve made it to the 3rd area once but I can pretty consistently get to the second boss which is INCREDIBLE.

Also I absolutely love the axe

I can already tell I'm probably not gonna be as into this as I was the first Hades, but really that's mainly because of how insanely good the original was

There's something about the character portraits that feels like a step down from the original and some of the voice work isn't really hitting for me, but overall it still feels really good!

So I finally bought Hades (1) like a week ago in preparation and I love it. I'm avoiding spoilers from 2 but I'm glad it sounds great too.

I'm starting to reach the area 4 boss somewhat reliably, but I haven't beaten him yet.
Chronos hits hard and his attacks are hard to avoid! The best I've done so far is beating phase 1 with a tiny sliver of health left. Then he started phase 2 with an attack I didn't figure out how to avoid that hit me for over 700 damage.

If you're struggling on a boss, Odyssesu's Keepsake will help you wreck them - it's really, really good, reducing their max health AND giving you damage resistance.

FWIW, i also got utterly owned by the first boss for a while, but i'm now downing her consistently.

Yeah when I beat her I had literally one hit point left lol

So far I feel like my strongest runs have used some combination of added damage to the cast + the boon that lets you aim the cast away from yourself. And then usually some boons that give you the explosive 200/400 damage on attacks/specials with a cooldown. I haven't really reached the same heights as Hades 1 when you could get the right boons on the shield and just stand in a corner and murder everything in the room without moving.

My best run saw me juicing my damage to nearby enemies while simultaneously boosting the shit out of the axe and its spin attack. I became a brutal, largely unstoppable tornado.

And then I hit the third boss, who has alllll sorts of ways to punish close combat, and that was that.

Yeah, the third boss is rough if you don't have your ranged damaged goosed in some way. The boon to aim your cast circle seems to be the best avenue I've come across for that. Especially combined with the boon that increases your cast damage 20% every time you cast it in an encounter.

In my first hours with the game, I thought there might be too many currencies. I thought the tarot cards were maybe too fiddly, I didn't get why there were so many moving parts.

I just got a tarot card that's conditional, that can only be activated if I have the right combination of other cards. In this case, I need five cards of differing costs.

Which means now I've got this little game, somewhere between inventory management and Sudoku, building a combo of buffs to unlock a bigger buff. And it... Beats ass?????

I'm not just clicking toggles in a buff menu, I'm getting funnelled into combinations of abilities I might otherwise NEVER pick, figuring out what sort of build I could make to best take advantage/paper over gaps, it's fuckin' RAD. It's lighting my brain up when it could have been this passive, easier thing. It's all starting to click for me.

(I still kiiiiiinda wish I could bring more resource gathering tools with me on runs, but I get why the limiter is there)

I spent a lot of time theory crafting boon/hammer/keepsake/charon combos in Hades it was almost as much fun as doing a run where you get like 75% of your ideal build

Oh, oh, (extraordinarily minor mechanics spoiler that you're probably very close to anyway)
Once you unlock animal familiars, one of the things they can do is basically act as a second tool (for a limited number of uses per run, it seems)

There's so much weird, interlocking depth to this stuff!

I reached the zone 4 boss a couple times, I think it’s doable for sure.

I am really digging everything about the game so far. I’m excited about the plot and the characters I’ve met, and I really want to keep playing but I have stupid work tomorrow.

The structure of this game is kind of blowing my mind.

No way not to spoil some stuff, so...
Like, you get your 4 zones, with the obvious endgame boss at the end of zone 4. Makes sense. That's Hades, baby.

But then around the time you're probably reliably getting to the zone 4 boss, you also open up an entirely different path through a whole new zone (multiple zones??) that seems unrelated to that main path. Maybe it ties back in? Maybe there's a whole other branch to this plot?

And there's still at least one other big obvious path that's still barred.

    How much game is there??

    It's wild.

this is just a little thing re: a snippet of lyrics from the zone 2 boss song that I have to acknowledge
The line "save your breath because tonight you're gonna drown" is such a goddamn perfect little line. The way it doubles as a direct reference to actually drowning to the ocean creatures so you'd better literally save your breath if you want any chance of surviving, and also as a completely tone-perfect line from any given angry-jilted-lover song that's saying "don't bother trying to talk your way out of this, you're fucked when I get a hold of you"

It may not be Shakespeare but for what it is, it's extremely good (and it helps that the entire song also rocks)
