If nothing else, using ChatGPT to explain one of the most self-evident idioms I can think of is an accurate reflection of how little thought, effort, and introspection went into Ramius' wet fart of a post.

This thread feels like 2 months too late. Not in the sense of oh all is lost, just, posting this now is just stirring the kosh shit up again. I assume that's what you're talking around, but if that's what you mean you should probably just say it directly rather than being vague.

Thinking back I think this all started when Tube dragged one of the D+D Democratic Primary into SE++ because that thread had a stunning lack of perspective at the moment in time and was something of a report generating machine.

And while it was deeply funny that multiple bad faith posters subsequently were run out of town on a rail, I don't think either subforum learned the right lesson and a lot of grudges started festering.

It seems like a 30,000 foot view message of "huh. The forums could actually end this time"

Marty: The future, it's where you're going?
Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.

see in my experience with that thread it was less bad faith posters being run out on a rail, and more "every trans friend on the forums i have tried to explain the reasons they were voting for bernie sanders in the primary because of his positions on trans healthcare and the ways in which biden and harris were both very bad on the topic and had not earned their trust, and was screamed at for saying 'no' when they were asked if they were going to vote for michael bloomberg if he won, and decided 'what the fuck am i doing on this shithole forum' and left"

Also: I feel like it denotes a catastrophic failure to read the room when, in the midst of multiple people expressing concerns about moderation and administration oversight, you decide to rouse from your ancient slumber and post a thread where you ask an AI to call everyone whiny babies, double post it, and force it to the top of two separate subforums.

I think Pony's post edges this one out in terms of misreading the room, but damn it's real close.

I had forgotten about the calls to support Bloomberg, probably because his campaign was dogshit and I forgot about him as a candidate.

View this as a dialog thing?

Does 'be nice" work as a directive from someone who hasn't been active in a meaningful sense for a decade?

Even as somebody willing to give a bit more credit to realpolitik style arguments, the idea of Bloomberg as a candidate always seemed like a complete joke to me. A billionaire buying his way into the primary with bad policy positions is just a failure on optics, electability, and meaningful change, an absolute disaster of a candidate.

Like, I have more respect for Yang Gang weirdos, because at least he was expressing some very atypical policy positions and I can see somebody finding that compelling before realizing those policies and his general vibe were dumb as shit, but Bloomberg was just... why?

I'm just wondering I guess, since I didn't even realize ramius was still active at all, I don't remember interacting with them since tube was still here

I'm sure tube would insult everyone and jail and maybe even ban a few of us, which wouldn't really repair relations either

I honestly can't think of a person who had Biden as their preferred candidate. Most didn't even have him above third in most cases and campaign Biden was almost a Socialist compared to Netanyahus Deputy Genocide currently sitting in the office.

But the borderline loyalty oath shit going on back then sucked out loud and some people haven't learned shit from back then it seems

Now I'm left wondering what other Super Duper Old Timers are going to come back and make condescending posts telling us that we're wrong to have grievances with the way this community has been run and that we should either suck it up, shut up, or leave.

Spin the wheel and see which insufferable antediluvian poster makes a surprise appearance! Will it be Defender? Evander? DrDizaster??? Who knows! Stay tuned to find out!!!

That's partially because for a long time there was a ban on Trans topics in DnD due to a strong streak of transphobia in the community and rather than telling people in the community to knock it off or take a hike it was suppressed.

Edit: Now I think about it that rule was gone by 2020ish.

"Don't cut your nose off to spite your face".

It's a wierd saying, so let's get a full description from ChatGPT
"Cut off your nose to spite your face" is an idiomatic expression that means to take a drastic action that is intended to harm someone else but ultimately causes more harm to oneself. It often refers to a self-destructive act motivated by anger, revenge, or stubbornness, where the person inflicting the harm on themselves does so to make a point or to hurt another, but the action ends up being more detrimental to them than to the intended target.

For example, if someone quits their job in a fit of anger because they had a minor disagreement with their boss, they might be "cutting off their nose to spite their face." The intent is to show the boss that they won't tolerate the disagreement, but the result is that they lose their source of income and potentially harm their career more than they harm their boss.

The phrase emphasizes the irrationality and counterproductive nature of such actions.

I've seen some significant sniping and griping and wringing of hands and accusations and overall unproductive behavior oozing out of the seams of the forums in recent weeks. And having been through a few revolutions in the past, I'm getting that deja vu feeling that there are sides being chosen and pitchforks being sharpened. And honestly, despite the revolutions I've seen this forum survive over the last 23-plus years, I do have real concern that the next one could be the last.

Of course, there are always some people who just want to see the world burn. I'm not trying to speak to those people. By themselves, they rarely have the power to do it. They need a coalition. They need backers. That's where you come in. When you see a spark, cover it. Don't fan the flames. And don't buy into the deceptive lure of righteous indignation.

If you care about these forums and would like them to be here for years to come, then I suggest that when you see the rabble rousers needling and trolling for a response, you perhaps express your disapproval of their behavior in the most basic, simple, and non-provoking way, but otherwise don't grant them an audience for their remarks. Forgive their insults, do not engage.

To those who've already staked out a claim to some injustice or behavior that you feel needs addressed, I'd ask that you please let it go, and move on. I will forgive and forget, and the forums at large will forgive and forget. Please go ahead and leave the past in the past, and focus the future on what brings joy without being at someone else's expense. No matter how justified your complaint, or how frustrated you feel, I would ask that you bury that complaint in the interest of not cutting off your nose to spite your face.

everything about this post is stupid, useless, and tone-deaf

"to those that want things to be better: shut up. to those that have real grievances: shut up"

how about you shut up, bucko? how about you stop destroying the planet by having a plagiarism chat robot explain to you a basic idiom children understand and go outside and learn that human beings aren't computer programs
