OK so the new or re-remake or whatever the hell it is game Lords of the Fallen just popped up on gamepass. These kinds of games usually are my bread and butter, but I'm having a serious "I'm too dang old for videogames" moment with this one. If anyone has the time and inclination to stage set this thing for me, I'd appreciate it. I have a magic lantern that moves me between worlds, and it's all very overwhelming... I picked the bloodborn hat ranger character and the combat is pretty damn fun so far but I can't wrap my head around the systems here so far. It's like that cool Dishonored 2 level where you're in two places at once but instead that's the entire game? I think I could enjoy this one if I can wrap my brain around it.
I got back into Wildermyth after the Omenroad update and the notice that the studio's now going to just like stop working because they're done with the project and not sure they feel like starting a new game which seems healthy.
Anyway I'm surprised at how well this new roguelike-ish mode works! I still haven't tried to story-mode version of it, but the just-combat stuff works really well! I forgot how good the tactics layer of this game is, even when it's just 50 fights in a row. I judge all tactics things against Into The Breach, and I think this doesn't quite reach that level of perfect but it has a lot more fun customization and working with the random stuff that gets thrown your way.
Anyway everyone who doesn't have Wildermyth should grab the game and DLC immediately because it's truly one of the greats.
I just started it up again as well. I've tried a couple times but bounced off for some reason. I think my issue was needing some game play specific tutorials. I found a bunch online that seemed like they were made for people who have never played X-com. I needed something that talked more about the overworld, character aging, and all the specific stuff. If I had just put in the time, I'd probably have figured it out, but some other game usually came along and sucked me away.
This time I powered through and I'm starting to understand the map, crafting, equipment, characters, and such a lot better now that I finished a chapter. I'm really enjoying the art and combat. The writing seems a little overly flowery (reminds me of Tycho/Jerry style), but I'm still enjoying it.

Certain pathways and items are only accessible when you're in the lamp realm. Once you cross over, it's the same map and you're covering the same territory, but new monsters will spawn in. The longer you stay in the blue realm the stronger the monsters get, and the only way to leave is through designated points which will take you back to the real world.
The lantern is also used to attack some enemies, since they're essentially buffed by a blue spirit. You don't pop into the other realm to deal with these, you can typically expose them by shining the lamp on them and yanking them out or striking them directly.
I don't have any real advice on builds or weapons since I got to the first boss and set it aside for something else, but it's not without it's charm from what I saw of the first area and opening friction free floor into spikewall of a boss.
"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!
I have it in my backlog too, but one thing that I did notice is that it has gone through very hefty balance changes, so if you want advice you need to make sure it's from a current source. Old guides will probably give you heavily nerfed builds, and the AI gloop will regurgitate and mess up any search results.

Elden Ring:
Got Margit on the second attempt and then Godrick on the third attempt. Almost had Godrick on the first except for a bad roll on my part. This is far better than my wizard run. I had like a dozen attempts of each with lots of jolly cooperation to beat them. I just keep upgrading this claymore. I'm sure that won't bite me in the ass eventually.
Something went completely sideways with my Steam deck today. I was playing persona 3 reload with the deck docked to my TV. I have a PS4 controller paired to the Deck that I'm using. At some point the controller stopped working so I picked it up off the dock to keep playing. The controller was still on, I figured it lost connection somehow. A few minutes later the deck's controls stop responding and the game switches to keyboard+mouse button prompts. I think because the controller finally ran out of battery? Anyways I couldn't do anything except the touchpad kind of controlled the camera and left trigger attacked. Neither the steam button nor the ... Menu button did anything. Even the power button was not responding. I ended up grabbing my old keyboard and mouse and plugging them in to the USB ports on the dock. Then, crouched on the floor by the TV, I navigated to a teleporter so I could return to the first floor and save. Using KBAM on a persona game feels extremely bad. I quit out of the game and got a black screen. Restarting didn't fix it. I eventually hard powered off and the Deck came back from that.
Does the deck's controller actually behave as a controller, or is it all mapped to KBAM on the backend? I've had some weird shit like this happen before.

But yeah this is a real gem, I'm glad you've finally gotten further into it! I'm nearing the end of my first run of Omenroad and it's been a blast just speeding through a bunch of character advancement stuff and seeing a bunch of later-game stuff from the campaigns I haven't completed yet.

I'm really loving the character "builds" and the legacy point system. As my group has moved to 6 folks, I'm really loving the dialogue interaction. I just like to understand the systems more completely and here it seems they want you to learn on the fly.
rolled credits on FF9. was actually fairly short, but I bypassed a bunch of grinding by turning on the 9999 damage option for the last 2 dungeons. Even still, I would have finished in under 30 hours.

The Steam Input config controls how it appears to games. For many games, the default is emulating an Xbox controller.
Found the lance in Elden Ring so now I'm gallivanting around Limgrave jousting every possible enemy whether it's a good idea or not. It is very funny to land the charged heavy attack on horseback and watch smaller enemies fly.
I've decided I'm going to try and collect one of every item since this interactive map thing lets me keep track of it all, but I've also already screwed up the platinum for this cycle because apparently I was supposed to wait for the invader in Round Table Hold to finish his bow to receive the gesture, instead of immediately doing a Don Quixote from behind when he spawned in. Oh well, I'll grab it in NG+.

Huh, I'm surprised. But I always take extra long to play anything.
This came out real quietly, but Reus 2 is super fucking charming. I'd highly recommend it if you at all liked Reus, or like god games, or just like chill puzzle eurogame style stuff, i'd highly recommend it. A lot of the frustrating cruft from Reus (like it being real time with the giants going to sleep) is gone, it's turn based now, and tickles a lot of the good brain chemicals of hitting synergies and stacking stuff up.
Oof, beat my first Wildermyth Omenroad run with flying colors and decided to skip to Peril Level 3 for my next. I figure I’m really awesome and also that was easy enough plus now I can buy some meta-rewards to make it easier and wow is this so much more difficult.
So every single node you beat gives you a list of enemy bonuses that will be applied from now on. You get to remove one of them. My thing on the first run was basically to remove new enemies as often as possible, keeping the enemy variability low and the later-game enemies less intense because they’ve had less time to get bonuses applied.
In this run, that was a terrible idea! I wasn’t paying attention and now the basic enemies have so much armor I can’t kill them in one turn and deal so much damage they can kill me in one turn. And the hard fights mean I’ve lost some reward chests because I couldn’t spare a turn. I’m pleasantly surprised at how much more I need to juggle at a higher Peril rating.

upload a trailer of their game to youtube - doesn't have to be fancy, just 1-3 minutes worth of gameplay is enough.
name their game something that won't immediately get buried by search algorithms - "unlimited" is a horrible title for your game, searches assume you're trying to find "Test Drive Unlimited". Similarly "Iridescent" is a Linkin Park song, which makes it more difficult for anyone to find your trailer
if you don't have the resources to make your own website and get a domain, at least use one of the many linktree / link in bio services to get all your press stuff in one place

Thanks! Yeah I spent a bit more time with it and I'm starting to approach something close to understanding. Still a lot of shit going on that I don't necessarily understand (which is part and parcel for these games, though usually the gameplay is less obscured) but I love the combat and it looks jaw dropping on my machine. Also, the parry windows seem super generous, so I think I'm going to knuckle down and figure this shit out to the best of my ability.
Got to the first boss - basically "we have Joan of Arc at home" I guess - and almost got her down. Lots of crazy flashy bling going on but the parries are easy to hit so far, so I think I'm going to persevere on this. Amazing idea with the two worlds in one thing. The execution is mostly there but we'll see. It's one of those things were I'm like "why didn't they just make this, like, better" because it seems like there's a ton of potential here, it just needs to balance the jank.
I have no fucking idea what the story is going on about. Two angry gods and a toothy demon guy on a cerberus-dragon-thing want my cool spooky lantern and I'm not gonna give it up without a fight!
