Help me find an old arcade Space invaders remake/clone

Hey guys and gals,

I clearly recall playing a version of space invaders with upgraded graphics and mechanics about 35 years ago. It might not have been called Space invaders but i think it was.

The main thing i remember is a powerup which changed your ship into a sort of upside down U-shape, that would automatically reflect enemy projectiles back up at them.

Anyone know which version i'm thinking of?

Sounds like maybe thing that might have come out of Xbox arcade era during the pac man championship/geometry wars time period?

Thanks for thinking along, but it was on an actual arcade cabinet like 30+ years ago, and i don't think it was particularly new at that time to begin with.

I've seen a few 90-ies updates but they all missed the powerup i remember. maybe it was a non-Taito knock-off...

Graphically and pattern-wise, Super space invaders seems like a good fit (it also was two player), but that only has double and triple shot powerups so it must be something else.

There were a few iterations on Galaga, maybe it was one of those?

Was it a static screen ala space invaders or did the screen scroll?

Static, like definitely space invaders style, but much more detailed graphics, new patterns and that dang powerup :-)

You'll want to search though a list of "Fixed Shooters" then, as the genre is called.

It's a much smaller genre then the later Vertical Schmups, which scroll, so I'm certain you can pick it out there.

Oh and the U wasn't upside down. Dunno why i said that.

Like the shot would enter one arm of the U and exit through the other. You know what i mean.
