It’s nice that I could never play this as a mobile game so I’ve been treating it more as a regular action game and just casually going through a mission or two of the story every day. I got to chapter two and even if it’s a bit of marketing for the gacha pulls, I quite like that they do some story missions with story appropriate trial teams.
I’ve also been in challenge mode the whole time which I’m pretty sure has no reward upside but it’s a lot of fun to play. Gimme this parry assist in every action game pls.
Yeah, this is primarily a game played with a gamepad on PC/PS5 that you can clear some dailies on your mobile device.
Story-wise I'm now working with Victoria Housekeeping so I think I'm at the point where I don't have to worry about missing any kind of daily/weekly/promotional events.
I should force myself to take a more relaxed approach with the game and get back to other games after the daily log-in, energy spending, agent invites, and slowly tackle commissions or agent videos so as not to burn out on the game.
grace is fantastic - i do missing having a dedicated stunner on my elec team, but the grace/anton/rina combo can pump pretty well. she would probably be real nasty with piper, chaining explosions and assaults, but i dunno what that team would really look like (or if it would actually perform well)
This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had the fucking choice, didn't we? It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.
So let's celebrate by all going out and buying the same burger. -transmet
So since Ch. 3 really made me like, well, that entire group, I threw another pull at Ellen. Still no S ranks off that banner, but I got 2 more Antons so he's maxed out now, lol. That last passive on him's silly too, just a constant +24% damage bonus basically (it's stacking buffs from crits, but with 30s duration and how his whole kit works... it'll cap in no time and never drop)

It does.
BUUUUUT the second character of 1.1 is an undercover rat cop (she's in the release trailer with them) with knives everywhere.
I'll be a little upset if there aren't any interactions with Nekomata. Rat/Cat + Cop/Outlaw is just a natural dynamic they have, even if they might not have any actual team synergies.
Managed to S-rank Shiyu Defense 9, and was... close-ish to doing it on 10, as well. Nice to have the floors that refresh rewards unlocked, even if I can only barely dip into them for now. Looks like it doesn't reset until the end of the month, so there's a bit more time to eek out more rewards.
Hit 40, and with the 6 standard draws that got, it coughed up Piper's fantastic signature W-Engine.
E: And, of course, the first 80 stamina put into trying to pick up promotion materials got 0 purples out of a possible 4. There's that frustrating as fuck farming I was expecting.
How does MiHoYO handle the banners in it's other games? Do the banner targets constantly rotate in and out so you can keep pulling for them again or do they eventually get put into the standard pool?
I'm probably just never going to roll the weapon banner so I can focus on getting the characters and grinding out A rank craft-able weapons, but I guess if the weapons also eventually come back into rotation then there might be a place to eventually acquire some of them.

They keep rotating and never get added to the selection of standard characters. If you want a character who you missed, you'll have to wait for a rerun. Decent chance that by the time they start doing S-rank reruns, they'll probably run banners simulatenously; so like in a few months we might get some new character and Ellen being available at the same time.
We'll need some more time to figure out how worth it W-Engines are to roll for in this game, but I generally agree with your plan. Getting new characters is way more interesting than making a character you already have a bit stronger, especially when you're F2P or a low spender and need to make decisions on who to roll for as it is.

hmmm yes I thought something was off. My exclusive channel rolls are better though at least:
in 40 rolls I got two Ellens so I'm overall probably a lot better off than those that couldn't get her without the guaranteed roll
S Luck More than 98.35% of users
TOP 1.6%
A Luck Less than 72.4% of users

also my sole stable channel S so far has been Lycaon so RNG is telling me to make an Ice team.

I rolled 1 10 pull on the Ellen banner and only got an A rank so my luck on limited banners is the worst ever and I deserve to pull 2 Zhu Yuans on my first 10 pull
Leveled Ellen to 50 with no other prep or leveling, teammates and w-engines still at 40, and took her to the new level 50 Notorious Hunt. Oof. Took over 4 minutes to grind through. That 40 to 50 jump has some teeth to it.
I imagine most people will be in the bottom just because it's going to be skewed by re-rollers and that the majority of people are going to be at pure pity just because that's more likely than not, and doubly so with the first pity being at 50.
The Ellen between floor bonus is basically giving her her M2, which really does feel super nice and make her burst combo even more vicious, but... nah.
It's pretty fun so far. The only pressure I've felt to spend money so far comes from the limited-time character banner (which I had to go for due to said character belonging to my favorite group in the game) though you get enough freely for some free pulls.
The only big annoyance on the F2P side so far is being limited in the times per day you can grind for leveling-tier unlocks for Agents. It's attached to ye olde mobile-stamina system and ZZZ's doesn't increase max-wise per personal level-up so you're stuck with 240/260 (don't quite remember which) and fights for materials including the tier-unlocks start at 60 and go up by 20 for each additional enemy you add to get more materials with a full spread of enemies for max-gain at 100. You can get a free coffee in-game that adds 60 to the meter for some in-game cash but that's only once a day.
I've been rocking the Anby/Rina/Anton team, which has been pretty fun so far. I'll probably grab Rina's weapon when I accrue enough summon points. My roster really isn't big enough for any other teams, yet. I really like how doing story stages in trial mode lets you get a feel for the other characters.
I have swapped a bit between corrin, Anton, and Billy as my attacker without a 5* option and it’s kind of frustrating that all three of them want to be immobile.
It just doesn’t square with how I would conceptualize “attacker” in general's. But especially for Billy. The Crouch shot stance just feels like a mistake. The dash shot aoe is like the most satisfying thing and I wish more of his kit fit that mold
Now that I'm digging a little deeper into some of the mechanics, I'm not bothering at all with the crazy-ass shit like using a 3-frame window to trigger both a dodge counter and an assist parry simultaneously, but stuff like Soukaku's Quick Assist being tied to the last couple hits of her Fly the Flag move gives a really noticeable increase in Ellen's burst damage rather than swapping earlier to skip the long flag plant animation. I wouldn't say no to ditching Soukaku at some early point though because I really dislike how slow her assist moves and attacking in general are, even for an assist. Apparently Nicole is competitive at high levels thanks to how potent her def shred is and how fast/good her assist/ex are, but... eh. I don't have the resources/luxury just yet.
Also, word of warning. There's a challenge event in Hollow Zero where you're supposed to collect I think 150 gear coins. Seems like just a standard timed challenge, but if you accidentally miss a gear coin somewhere, you get trapped in the last room with no way to get any more or do much of anything except watch the clock run out, which in my case, was nearly two minutes. So take your time and be sure not to miss any.
Guoba has the Zhu Yuan video ready. This is...much more "need to pay attention" than the HSR ones because he goes into just about every string of combos you can think of and why some work but others don't, as well as when each should be used. https://youtu.be/-pFq08cIB2k
Ellen decided to sneak in using the pull I got for hitting IK level 30. It will be a bit before I get to build her, but she's pretty damn fun based on the trial.
I tossed one more 10 on Ellen's banner looking for a Soukaku to get her ice debuff M4 and instead got three damn Antons.
Also, I guess I misunderstood how to use Zhu Yuan's kit a bit. I had her pegged as more of a sustained DPS to Ellen's burst, but I guess she's just extra bursty but also with extra setup/charge time? Well, all that stuff in there is way more complexity than I'm interested in anyway, and I think everything's reserved for the knifey rat anyway. I think I have a better understanding of Qingyi too, and I'm not too big a fan. She's like Lycaon where she gives a massive buff to the stun multiplier, an even bigger one in fact, but hers is more conditional on hitting with her empowered state charge attack, and especially essentially dodge countering while charging it. She does work with Attack units to trigger her second passive, so she's going to be very universal and I can't imagine that she'd be a bad pickup at all, so I might toss a few pulls her way, but absolutely reserving enough to make sure I can get the rat cop.
Qingyi is to Anby as Jane is to Piper. I might still roll for one of them (hell, I didn't initially think I was going to roll for Zhu Yuan), but I feel like I have so many positions and elements that need filling, so rolling for an upgrade over an existing character is really questionable. I'll have to see who is going to be coming in 1.2 first, I think.
I’m still kind of confused by how many combos she has when as far as I can tell you only pull out your attacker for 10s of stun time every 45s of anby time
I’m still kind of confused by how many combos she has when as far as I can tell you only pull out your attacker for 10s of stun time every 45s of anby time
I started looking into videos of optimal clears of stuff, and I was kinda surprised by how often attackers wind up on field when enemies aren't stunned. Sometimes it's just because they're switching back and forth very frequently, but it might be worth it to actually keep them on field for a bit sometimes.
Plus, I think I prefer to keep the attacker on field most of the time for mobs of enemies, so knowing when Zhu Yuan can do her special dodges without setting you back is certainly helpful.
Won the 50/50 so Zhu Yuan get. Not gonna go for her signature weapon when a copy of Starlight Knight works nearly as well, so I've still got 120+ pulls in the tank for whoever.
I’m still kind of confused by how many combos she has when as far as I can tell you only pull out your attacker for 10s of stun time every 45s of anby time
That's one of the things I really like about Ellen. Her transitionary moves between characters are really good. Her roaming charge can be assist canceled and still gives the full 3 charges (6 charges with M1), her Quick Assist gives her a super fast roaming charge and goes straight into her chonky B3, and her B3 even used on its own lasts a long time so it's also a nice to cancel back into Anby strings as you're passing through on her for whatever reason.
I think she personally has the edge on Zhu Yuan right now just because Lycaon exists and provides big ice specific boosts, which is another reason why I think Qingyi is going to be universally strong since I think the team bonuses are going to be really hard to deal with going forward so elemental teams will be more important. Though maybe future factions will be like the cops and mostly want specific types rather than elements.

It's hard to be mad at a Gatcha game when they give you the best roster literally right out of the gate.

I got Neko and Soldier 11 and rolled down to 16 before the guaranteed pity on Ellen so I figure it wasn't meant to be.
At least she's Ether and will seamlessly slot in with Nicole.
I guess I must roll.
