So i've got many many gigs of television shows on my harddrive, and i want to back them up so i can wipe some of them. Taking up a lot of my full install game space. (fragment) Best way to back them up? using disks lets me put maybe 3 episodes on a standard disk, and I have a few dvd-rw/rs. I'm talking about hundreds of hour-long tv shows, including the first two seasons of lost, BSG, and others.
Option one: Buy a big spindle of blank DVD's and get burning...
Option two: Compress them down to lower resolution / quality - proceed with option one, slightly less disks..
Option three: Buy another hard drive (internal or external) to store them on.
Video files are big, storing them is a pain - keeping them around costs money. Personally I have our entire DVD collection ripped as uncompressed files (movie + one soundtrack only), 430 movies - averaging about 5Gb each. Which is why we have a media server with 3Tb's of storage space. Extreme I know... But it's nice to be able to pick a movie to watch anywhere in the house, pick one from the list (using meedio as a frontend), press play - it plays. The server also holds all our CD's and is the storage point for over the air HD recording (designated drive able to store 24hr's of uncompressed HD broadcasts).
