Everyone else who stepped down did it basically under pressure and sometimes with disgrace.

Pretty sure none clinched or had a chance at clinching the party nomination. Modern politics I think it's just LBJ and Truman who both had such unfavorables they wouldn't have clinched like Biden had.

This is on a par with Washington not seeking another term in stepping back and down.

Yeah, I think the fact that basically everyone, including Republicans are saying such nice things about Biden is part of what makes Trump so angry about this.

No matter what the poll numbers were, Biden had a decent shot at a second term. Giving that up, and telling everybody it’s for the good of the country, is a tough pill to swallow for anybody with the kind of ambition it takes to even reach for the brass ring let alone win it.

Honestly, I think he's pissed because Biden will have forever beaten him, no taksies backsies.

It also means that both are remembered as historic firsts.

Trump for being the first 1 term president by defeat in a generation, Biden for being the first 1 term president by choice in......has any other American president done this?

Sadly, this leads down a slippery slope to bigger army diplomacy, especially when someone sees everyone else as a bully and not themselves.

(apologies, just want to get in one last gasp of asking people to stop fighting and assuming the worst of everyone.)

I wonder if Vance is going to figure out that Trump and a portion of his base are instinctively uncomfortable with the mere idea of a Vice President and will want him publicly executed at the slightest provocation.

I'm laughing at those idiots because given that none of them are actual artists that are making this stuff by hand. They could have waited till after the democratic convention before investing in how a 3rd make merchandise that assumed Biden would be the democratic nominee.

I hope whichever judges get to deal with the suits from these idiots will dismiss this shit with prejudice and fine them for filing frivolous lawsuits. They made a poor business decision and it's not on Biden that that they decided to fuck around and are now finding out.

It doesn't even make sense. The Old Man is already in. He's been in for the past 3.5 years. But "Don't Let the Old Man In Again" doesn't sound pithy?

It just sounds like a manufactured self-own.

The thing I noticed about his first like rally performance was he was trying to do a kind of maga performance, trying to go here’s me hey let’s have fun this is what I’m like hello. And it’s like no buddy, the job is to spend 100% of your time praising trump. They don’t want to hear about you, the gig is you’re a hype man in an empty suit. Either do that or be silent are the only acceptable options to both trump and his fans

Yeah I think Kamala’s winning move is not to be drawn into detailed policy discussion around Israel’s genocide, cost of living, etc and just focus on like, Trump and the rest of the neo-fascists being weird little freaks, the whole “I have spent a career putting pedophiles and thieves in jail” stuff, and the playing up the age angle.

At this point I’m sort aligned on working out how the centre is gonna deal with dissent and civil disobedience post-election

Mere hours after Trump chickened out of debating Kamala on the grounds that “many in the (Democratic) party like Barack Hussein Obama” think she can’t win and “are holding out for someone better”, Barack and Michelle Obama have both formally endorsed Kamala Harris.

Really calling Trump's bluff. But I also think debating him is a trap. Hilary thought debating him was a winning move but he is in his element where he can appear strong by talking utter bollocks as loudly as he can, ignoring etiquette and disparaging his opponent. We saw it in the ancient 2016 primaries, he just takes control and moderators let him.
She's better off sassing him from out of reach.

It was "worthless" well before Biden dropped out, honestly.

And last I checked, the patriots didn't get to sue the giants when they lost their undefeated season at the super bowl, and were stuck with all of that undefeated patriots super bowl winner merch.

You write it off as a loss, get a tax break, and move on.

The man said, boldly in a widely watched interview, that he never said "Lock Her Up"

There is no angle beyond he just doesn't give a fuck. Sow chaos and confusion, that is his winning formula. Even after Obama endorses, he won't retract this or anything, he will spew forth some new fresh bullshit and the right will lap it up.

There was a heavy social media push from the Trump camp trying to salvage some “Dems in disarray” nonsense from Biden stepping aside and endorsing Harris. They blew up the fact Obama didn’t make any public statements into him not actually wanting her and plotting to shove his own choice on the ticket instead.

Nah, it was given to the press on background early Thursday morning that obama planned to endorse harris very soon and had been talking to her since she announced. He was waiting for Biden to have his moment so it wouldn't be overshadowed.

Like, this was openly reported. So Trump was just spewing nonsense as always, and at the very least, his team knew it was nonsense.

Trump pulling out of the debates is fertile ground for trolling. Dems just need to frame it as Trump running scared from a woman of color and he’ll blow his top.

The angrier he gets, the more deranged he acts, the more we harp on his cognitive decline. He pretty much walked right into this.

This is incorrect to the first, OGHulk provided the specific statute in the MENA thread showing that the president can do exactly that.

Can you actually share that then?

Saying so and so wrecked this argument elsewhere is kinda meaningless without more details and the full context and links.

My dude, I also wanted to ask for a link because I am curious but you are phrasing this with undue aggression.

    This post probably.

I would need a clearer legal analysis because my own legal reading of that is slightly different.

I'm increasingly suspicious we're gonna get a Vance dump here soon. My guess is he's getting desparate to get back in the news cycle on a positive note and Vance has proven to be about as popular as a pube in soup.

My prediction is he'd try to swap Couches for Haley but I have no idea how that would work. I imagine he hates her and she's a bit of a pariah in the party for holding out so long. She'd be eager to bend the knee and get back in the GOP's good graces and Trump might be desparate enough to think he could use her more "moderate" temperament and the facts she's a woman to steal back some of the Thunder Kamala yoinked.

Pure speculation on my part, but I think he's feeling the stress.

Remember that initially, Trump's re-electiob slogan (and merch) for 2020 was Make America Great Again. You know, because branding and stuff.

Then somebody realised that it's suggesting the current president sucked.

I’m not sure how dumping JD would work either since he’s the official nominee after the GOP convention.

What happened to “any time, any place”?
    Official Kamala Harris Twitter.

Plan "hammer the hell out of Trump for being a coward" it is. All the seething blue checks on that Tweet is a bonus.

Another announcement is that Harris has now a TikTok account:

Which stands in contrast to the TikTok ban law that Biden signed, I think the Dems are going to have to find a way to retract or not enforce that law since the numbers shows that voters under 35 will just not tolerate it and will go to vote against any party that does it. No US party can afford to ban TikTok at this time.

It does not surprise me in the slightest that Kamala’s campaign has jumped onto TikTok. By all accounts the amount of pro Kamala content on TikTok is absolutely wild. That entire platform just spontaneously exploded with enthusiasm the second Biden endorsed her.

One gem I spotted this morning was “Couches for Kamala” - a video of couches waving “SAVE US FROM JD!!!” signs with the Beatles ‘Help’ playing.
