Maybe go find some indy-tier shooter (and if you want to really be sure, one that allows private servers/lobbies and admins who can curate content) in the meantime if you don't want your optical immersion sodomized by GaaS dickwolves. There's probably going to be at least a full decade or more of AAA shooter devs doing stuff like this in the hopes of raking in Fortnite tier dosh.

And all these people imitating Fortnite are failing to realize the same thing all these people trying to imitate WoW failed to realize back then.
If people wants to play WoW/Fortnite they're just going to do that and not play the game trying to imitate it. especially if the imitation elements are awkwardly put in a setting where it doesn't work as well because it wasn't meant to have them.
That's why WoW kept existing, while the "wow killers" didn't.
If they want to succeed, they should try to not be the already existing thing.
Fortnite didn't invent online shooter or Battle Royale, but it added it's own gimmicks. same with WoW and MMORPG. a
Of course, CoD does'nt have to worry about it due to being a big enough franchise on it's own. Which just make it weird that they would try to imitate something else.
Weird, but not surprising of course, Big publishers tend to see something getting popular and think they have to change their own popular thing to make it more like that something.
And sometimes you get a game like Angry Birds Epic that could teach Square Enix a thing or two about JRPGs
