Yeah....everyone remember how after WoW burst onto the MMO scene all the "WoW-killer" games kept cropping up and copying features? Not surprised to see this with Fortnite either.

Maybe go find some indy-tier shooter (and if you want to really be sure, one that allows private servers/lobbies and admins who can curate content) in the meantime if you don't want your optical immersion sodomized by GaaS dickwolves. There's probably going to be at least a full decade or more of AAA shooter devs doing stuff like this in the hopes of raking in Fortnite tier dosh.

The best shooter remains Titanfall 2, and sadly I don't see that changing any time soon.

My nephews enjoyed it, once they navigated EA's Byzantine process.

That's Tommy Chong, of Cheech and Chong fame. He's actually in the game. I'm not making this up.

Yeah, that's a marketing decision best explained by copious amounts of drugs.

Feel like TF2 was one of the pioneers with this stuff, though not nearly as bad as what came after.

Seems like both Gabe and Tycho are both enjoying rainbow six siege, might need to give it a go.

    I would download a car.

Apart from unofficial mods, TF2 just had slightly silly hats and alternate weapons that fit the flavor of the game

Maybe at the start, but that isn't the way it is now. The list of items you can get from lootboxes in TF2 is a mile long. https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Category:Cosmetic_items

    I would download a car.

Yeah....everyone remember how after WoW burst onto the MMO scene all the "WoW-killer" games kept cropping up and copying features? Not surprised to see this with Fortnite either.

And all these people imitating Fortnite are failing to realize the same thing all these people trying to imitate WoW failed to realize back then.
If people wants to play WoW/Fortnite they're just going to do that and not play the game trying to imitate it. especially if the imitation elements are awkwardly put in a setting where it doesn't work as well because it wasn't meant to have them.
That's why WoW kept existing, while the "wow killers" didn't.
If they want to succeed, they should try to not be the already existing thing.
Fortnite didn't invent online shooter or Battle Royale, but it added it's own gimmicks. same with WoW and MMORPG. a
Of course, CoD does'nt have to worry about it due to being a big enough franchise on it's own. Which just make it weird that they would try to imitate something else.
Weird, but not surprising of course, Big publishers tend to see something getting popular and think they have to change their own popular thing to make it more like that something.

CoD's battle royale mode may have been an attempt to cash in on the trend but it wasn't bad

And sometimes you get a game like Angry Birds Epic that could teach Square Enix a thing or two about JRPGs

That's the type of cases where it's not necessarily a bad idea. Takes the things that can work in your game from the popular trend.
