    - Added custom hotkeys per hero

    - Space Bar no longer cancels abilities. Abilities can be pressed again to cancel the ones that have a cancel state.
    - The Alternate Cast modes "Modifier Button" and "Alternate Cast Button" have had their behaviors merged
    - Added UI button hints when using "Alternate Cast Button" in some extra cases
    - Added a slider for Double Tap Alternate Cast timing
    - Added a slider for Press and Hold Alternate Cast required time

-Changes to Scoreboard (TAB) and Extra Info (ALT)
Previously there was a lot of crossover between the TAB and ALT modes during gameplay. In this update we have separated the behavior of these two modes to better serve different functions. The keys used for each of these modes can be swapped within Keybinds Settings.

    Scoreboard (TAB):
    - Enables cursor mode
    - Displays Scoreboard
    - Displays Damage Summary
    - Allows minimap ping and draw

    Extra Info (ALT):
    - No longer enables cursor mode
    - Quick-upgrade Abilities (ie. ALT+1) each of these can be individually remapped
    - Can now more easily map ALT as an Alternate Cast button
    - Displays extra information on HUD (ie. Zipline Speed Boost Cooldown) - we plan to expand upon this in future updates

    - Kelvin: Arctic Beam fire rate slow reduced from 80% to 40%
    - Kelvin: Arctic Beam movement slow reduced from 80% to 70%
    - Kelvin: Objectives and Rejuvenator are now frozen and invulnerable when under frozen shelter

    - Seven: Base bullet resist reduced from 8% to 0%
    - Seven: Bullet resist no longer scales with Boons
    - Seven: Headshot reduction increased from 25% to 35%
    - Seven: Storm Cloud damage reduced from 124 to 110
    - Seven: Storm Cloud max radius reduced from 30m to 25m
    - Seven: Storm Cloud cooldown reduced from 180s to 140s
    - Seven: Storm Cloud audio is now a little clearer when it's cast

    - Viscous: Puddle punch now telegraphs an effect before it forms

    - Warden: You gain 50% bullet resistance during the 2s ult channel

Some other important ones, I'll update when I get a chance to read more

Per Reddit 5 man party limit has been reverted

Hey! My guess was right that Kelvin is the best hero at high level coordinated play!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v3ZXJA5jVM

One weird trick. When you're sliding, you have unlimited ammo...for some reason. Can squeeze a couple extra bullets out. Can be a useful trick when you're standing on top of the staircase in front of the 1st enemy guardians. Keep sliding down the stairs and jumping back up. Gets you many extra bullets during the windows you can shoot the guardians and adds up.

Under the radar items I'm finding very useful. The 2 sprint boosts under vitality seem like a must have on every hero. Traversing the map quickly outside of zip lines is super important. Also I've been getting a lot out of leap. You turn into Lash without the need of a target to swing off of. Been looking into the magic carpet for quick map travel, but it's a much bigger investment so I'm not sure.

I think the slide infinite ammo is to further reward skill expression.

Sure you can go faster and keep up your momentum for a time while decreasing your hitbox, but make it even cooler by shooting.

Note it doesn't work if you're actively reloading.

90% of feeder->dc problem players have been Lash, Seven, or Ivy.

  • NeveronNeveron HellValleySkyTree SwedenRegistered User regular
One trick with the infinite ammo slide is that, well, you can slide by crouching after a dash.
So if you've got the stamina and the fire rate, dash+slide can really extend your magazine.

  • Vic_HazardVic_Hazard Registered User regular
I mean the real infinite ammo is crouch spamming with seven, since he can scale his move speed up he can basically infini-slide for infini-ammo.

Bebop is such a dick I love it

    Hook
    Bomb
    Uppercut (resets hooks)
    Hook

  • KarozKaroz Registered User regular
So I gotta know, when can Bebop uppercut friendlies? Is it only ones he puts his bomb on? I know that's the main reason but I could see it being useful for helping others escape.

  • MrBodyMrBody Registered User regular
Speaking of uppercutting people, when you max out its AP and get a respectable amount of spirit power, Dyanmo's Q practically becomes an ult.

You can uppercut anyone afaik. I've stuck the bomb to a friendly trooper and yeeted them into a pack of enemies with good results.

Viscous' splatter was doing ridiculous damage in the game I played earlier, was a lot of fun rolling round as a ball throwing them out.

Played some bebop yesterday for the first time. Landing the hook, bomb, uppercut combo makes me laugh every time.

Also played wraith a fair bit. Took me way too long to realize (and read...) that card cool down is based on damage. Oops. She still didn't feel great or that she added a whole lot more than other options.

It only shows while holding alt.

Edit: The most recent update made the mouse cursor only activate when holding tab, rather than alt or tab. This means that to view the spirit scaling numbers, you must press and hold tab, and then press and hold alt. I guess they didn't consider that you might accidentally hit alt+tab instead of tab+alt.

Or, you could hold alt while the shop is open.

More stuff I've changed my mind on:

Shiv is an absolute monster. Was apparently even more broken before, had some nerds, but is still crazy. The mistake was playing around his knives. They're crap. Possibly the biggest nothing burger in the whole game. Want you want is to max his dash before anything else, and use it to farm constantly. With enough farm he just will...not...die. Hardest to kill character in the game who can outpit tons of damage. An even stronger tanky dps version of pure dps Haze. Get lifesteals, resists, and anything that boosts you the more damage you take. Then you run into the enemy team dashing and shooting, never dying. I was pulling 1v4s, tied them up for an entire minute trying to kill me, killed one of them before they finally killed me, then it didn't matter because I had the rez item and jumped them from behind to start it again and win.

Lady Geist might be the worst hero in the game. Her laning is bad. Her wave clear and farming is meh. She is only above average for 1v1 situations and then brings very little to late team fights.

5 out of my last 10 games had a feeding Paradox (0-8-0 or worse) who dc'd halfway through. Paradox players are the Illidan players of Deadlock.

The vast majority of games are decided on which team is less likely to mount a losing push on the final twin guardians or shrines. It's 5v4, only ten seconds before their other two are back, and only 2 of you are pushing the base while the rest of use aren't there. Oh what a shocker our Leeroys died. People pointlessly push on the base when we should be midbossing, and midboss when the entire enemy team is right outside.

I've never played a moba before except for like 2 days in HotS, so the nuances are lost on me. I've figured out what laning is, sort of, and I'm bad at it, but jungling and urn and midboss are all things that might as well be in another game. I just don't interact with them at all, I don't understand when or why so I don't.

I have a ton of fun when I'm matched with people around my skill level. It's crazy addictive. When I'm matched against people clearly in comms, using complimentary builds, I want to uninstall. I've had matches where I'm clearly fresh meat, easy kill, and dudes still chain 3 ults on me in some insane alpha strike. Never realized how closely fun and misery are linked.

Laning is usually the first ~10 minutes of the game and while it should be your main focus you can put in doing jungle camps (small ones start spawning in at 4 minutes IIRC) or rotating to the nearest lane as needs dictate. Still, like most mobas, keeping your lanes pushed forward should be a prime concern throughout the game as they are the main source of soul currency and unlocking flex slots by knocking out the enemy team's base.

Jungles in many ways are a supplement to your income, you'll make more in lane but sometimes it's not safe to be with your minion wave or you might have some spare time as they move up and clear a camp. Small and medium camps are pretty quick to clear while the elite ones take a bit. Naturally more rewarding but if you're sitting there awhile you probably were better off with lanes. If you're pushed into enemy territory you can steal their jungle camps giving you more sway. Do note, all jungle and slot machine souls are unsecured (you will drop them if you die) which will slowly convert into secured souls over time/if spent. These unsecured souls are represented by an orb floating at about waist level of your character so if you're carrying around 1k+ think about using those souls before getting into a fight.

Midboss is another big swing, if the enemy is down a few heroes or out of position, your team can quickly take it (some heroes can even solo it) but due to it making a large yell at ~25% health it can be pretty dicey and swings have been made either way. The rejuvinator will slowly drop down from the ceiling and has to be broken by a heavy hit to be claimed. Naturally, the hit can be parried, stopping the steal as you can see on this clip.

    https://youtu.be/xSNnYydB0Iw

Rejuvinator empowers your creep waves to push up, any living hero on the team that claims it has their respawn reduced to 30 seconds (quite handy in mid-late game when respawns are quickly approaching 60+ seconds). Note you don't get that if you're dead when rejuvinator is claimed.

Another thing to note is the crates and golden statues scattered around the map, crates can drop unsecured souls while gold statues can drop permanent stacking buffs so it's important to break them open if you see them.

Urn is also a useful objective to go for as it gives your team a chunk of souls and even more to the deliverer plus an ability point to the courier.

A lot of it just takes experience.

Sorry to info dump on ya.

  • MrBodyMrBody Registered User regular
Everything should be about getting farm (souls) or destroying an objective (guardians, walkers, shrines). Pushing lanes (killing enemy minions so yours push up the lane) is better than jungling. Jungling is something you do when you can't push a lane (either not safe, or a teammate is already taking the souls in a lane) so try to quickly do ones close to you. Midboss should ALWAYS be done every time it's safe to do so (most of the other team is dead or visibly in their base). Urn is good to do when there's no lanes to push and you have a clear shot.

Besides that, the general rule is to never take a fight where you're at a disadvantage (outnumbered or down in souls+ability points). Retreat if a fight is about to break out under those circumstances.

The souls don't share with everybody in a lane?

Lol, the people that use voice chat in game usually just screech about how stupid everybody is. I will take a couple paragraphs over rage any day of the week. Thanks for the info, both of you.

  • KarozKaroz Registered User regular
The souls don't share with everybody in a lane?

Souls are duplicated for up to 2 people in a lane up until 10 minutes when they are split by those in the area. At 10 minutes, you stop getting half the souls from last hitting a mob and only get them from securing the soul (or letting it naturally pop) after last hitting minions.

There are exceptions like objectives (sentinels, walkers, etc) but those can also be denied so sometimes you can't defend an objective but if you're at a safe spot you can claim a lot of the souls the enemy team would otherwise gotten.

  • Vic_HazardVic_Hazard Registered User regular
Dont be afraid to mute and report people. Sometimes you get these weirdly positive teams and that rocks but a lot of times you get frankly absurd voice comms.

Like I cant even hear what you're saying mumbling russian dude, except your loud HELLOS when you misplay and get killed. And sometimes you make what I can only explain as dog sounds? If you were trying to have fun that would be one thing but theres a lot of clearly unwell people on voice comms...

  • KarozKaroz Registered User regular
It's especially telling because they should be able to use their voice to communicate with their team to improve the overall game performance but instead only use it to abuse their team potentially leading to even worse performance.

Vic has the right of it, mute and report.

And for the laning stage, you usually want Headshot and Restorative Shot first thing. Extra Stamina maybe before that, but it is mandatory on every single hero. Headshot is kinda broken right now with how much harass value it gives you. Those 3 cheap items will give you a huge edge over someone who doesn't get them. Go for a hero headshot every 6 seconds. Chase or run with the extra stamina.

A lot of guides say to get Healing Rites for laning sustain, and I'm not crazy about it. Any hero damage immediately cancels it, so you're already forced out of laning and much of the last hitting. For the amount of time you have to hide while it heals, you could almost just go back to base to heal. It can be useful for early jungling.

Another mandatory item on every is tier 1 Improved Sprint. I even go tier 2 if you're ganking focused or hyper farm focused. If you're behind and can't kill anyone, just run around to any empty lane you can and kill the minions for souls and pushing.

  • KarozKaroz Registered User regular

Healing Rite can build into Rescue Beam and Healing Nova so there's value there but yeah lots of people usually go for Extra Regen, Enduring Spirit (+spirit, spirit lifesteal), Melee Lifesteal are other valuable options. However, only Melee Lifesteal builds into something else so the rest can be saved when your slots are filled and need better. 500 is 500 and not that big of a deal however it can set you back from some key items so keep it in mind.

I see a lot of people undervalue the healing from the heal minion (has a metal flag with a + sign on it, shoots out a healing beam every so often) and both enemies and I forget to delete that guy as soon as possible cause that chunk of health can be a lifesaver.

As you get better, unless you're getting flex slots real fast, I would say it is better to either go with stamina or sprint and its upgrade, not necessarily both. Stamina lets you do more in combat while sprint lets you roam the map better. Both have uses and depends on your character, but I know times I would not want to give up either when really I needed something like bullet armor.

Edit: Also forgot to point out you can immediately refund both items and abilities if sold right away, later on items can only be sold for half cost so you'll get back 250 for those other items so it's not bad at all.

So besides interrupting Seven ults, I've found the best use of Knockdown is against flying Vindictas and Grey Hawks. They're relying on that long distance aerial shooting, and stunning them knocks them to the ground. It can easily take them completely out of a fight for 10-20 seconds and prevent them from staying out of reach.

  • MrBodyMrBody Registered User regular
Speaking of 2 teammates both getting the full soul value for the first 10 minutes, that leads to a broken mechanic right now of double soaking. What you do is have the solo lane try to never push the wave on their own while the adjacent dual lanes constantly come over to soak.

    1-2-3-4

Say lane 3 is solo. They just hold. Lane 4 pushes up to the guardian as fast as possible, then one of them rotates to lane 3, quickly clears the wave with the solo, then rotates back in time to lane 4. Next wave in 3, someone from lane 2 comes over and soaks the wave before rotating back. Repeat.

Ends up that one teammate in both lanes 2 & 4 are soaking almost double everyone else, soaking about an extra wave per minute. You're going to be massively ahead of the other team if they don't do it too. According to top tournament players like Deathy, there is no real counter to it. All you can do is the same thing yourself.

Great news, just fixed that with a patch
    - Fixed players being able to exploit soul sharing across multiple lanes to earn more souls than intended. The way the fix is implemented is that each player can only be considered for an enemy trooper death event 4 times per wave number during the laning phase.
    - Fixed troopers sometimes not dying after doing their death flash state
    - Fixed Unstoppable state not preventing fire rate reductions
    - Fixed Grey Talon's Charge Shot and Vindicta's Assassinate cameras not working properly

I just want ONE normal game this afternoon.

3 games in a row. 3 separate Shiv players not only dc'd, but were complete asses about it.

    1st fed 0-8-0 before dc'ing
2nd paused the game to announce he had to leave and go to work, kept pausing the game to announce this instead of leaving
3rd somehow gets stuck in the side teleporter 30 seconds into the game. Announces he's going to wait until it opens up at the 10 minute mark (with zero souls) instead of just leaving so the rest of us can leave

    Just...people, man.

Yeah, I don't know if that page is disabled currently or what. I've seen Abrams in a video listing 2 ranges, like 20/35 or something like that. I'm assuming it's that greyed out equipment tab when you go to the heroes menu and it used to be visible before the game went wider beta. It would be useful info for me, for sure.

I had written off Dynamo's 2 cause it just felt like it took too long and didn't have that much use.

What a fool I was. It has like 12 second cooldown by default and can be a big mobility and power spike if used right since it reloads your weapon.

Also I went for maxing 3 first and man it felt harsh at the start but once you have it was such a boon. There were several escapes where I'd use 3 and fleetfoot to just scuttle away. I imagine the Zoidberg "whoop whoop whoop" playing as I did it.

From the initial leak I just wrote this game off as a weird hero-shooter, quite glad it is actually a Smite-MOBA that will have (or seems to have) the VALVE polish on it.

. . .will definitely echo Atlas' concern about the game assuming knowledge of the genre; this is why I kind of bounced of previous games of this type as there's just so much seemingly going on (I'm assuming you also buy "items" in this one) beyond just trying to help your team "push the objectives." Hopefully the tutorializing is good on this because it looks really fun.

The tutorialing so far is...really minimal!

You'll get a handful of things explained (last hitting, claiming souls, denying, basic movement) but lordy there's a lot more to it. And despite the color codedness of the items and much more simplistic names, there are soooooooooo many items and learning them will take some time.

I don't want to scare folks off but also know what you would be getting into. Still worth a try if nothing else, the movement--once you get a handle on it, feels great.
