Seriously at this point wouldn't it be cheaper to switch to an android based device rather than continue to prop up a cottage industry of circa 1976 chips?
at least with the Switch OLED, standard Switch came down to $270. Sony, hurry up and release some new PS5 variant. It's STILL $500. At this juncture in the lifespan of the PS4 I got a slim during black friday for $150.

The question should be, what have you done about it?

In a one to one comparison you have to account for the PS5 existing as mythological allegory for that first year.
I allow Nintendo to sell me older technology because it plays fun games. We were talking about this last night actually. I recently bought a Kindle Paperwhite, and it's wonderful to have a piece of technology that does one thing incredibly well and that's it. It lets me read books and it does it in a simple, clean way. I love my phone, but I sometimes miss having an iPod that solely does music and doesn't distract me with the world/games/social media every time I unlock it. I miss having a standalone camera sometimes that doesn't share battery/storage with the rest of my life.
The Switch falls into the "it works" category. I rarely boot it up to have to do massive updates, the interface doesn't blast me with ads. It does games, does it well, and at a price I was fine with. I am honestly just now starting to wish it had a little more oomph under the hood when I see how Powerwash Sim looks on my Xbox vs the Switch and I do hope the next iteration gets a bunch of patches for better performance.

They can, in fact, keep getting away with it.

it did, but perhaps it was the OG non-improved battery versions.
That exact thought barged into my brain reading the thread title.
