The world's weirdest game error. It's probably DirectX's fault, anyways

I have encountered the strangest error ever while trying to diagnose my friend's copy of Rain World not starting. According to them, they opened it at an improper time, and then it bugged. No problem, I walked them through re-installing it and then we tried again. Now it's even weirder!

It not only refuses to start, but it showed this very strange error *once* and then died forever. We've tried everything short of re-installing Windows at this point. There's not even any logs to go off of! Any ideas?

did you try verifying the file integrity in steam? might have gotten corrupted
I guess a reinstall would usually fix such a problem though

When you say there aren't any logs, are you checking in Event Viewer? I'm just wondering if there's a weird permission issue with Windows security which.. is often fixable, but usually easier to reinstall Windows when it gets fucky like that.

Yeah, we've tried literally *everything* short of re-installing windows. It's a nightmare.

Event viewer also has nothing, which is weird, but I think it's because it's a Steam game, which usually has to have logging specified (the developers have not answered my email about how to do this).
