The Circle of Life: Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones

My first thought when I hear James Earl Jones is honestly Field of Dreams
I loved FoD when I was a kid and his performance was so good. The part when Kevin Costner drops him off then turns the vehicle around and the headlights land on James Earl Jones standing in the dark…

"The torpedo did not self-destruct. You heard it hit the hull. And I... was never here."
I am so fucking sad and I can’t even figure out why. There have been so many heroes of mine who died at a younger age to this whose deaths I still felt able to reconcile. Usually once someone hits their 90s I’m full of praise for their achievements and resigned to their passing.
But I am so fucking sad. I knew I’d lose him in my lifetime. But I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready anyway.

My first thought was his role in The Sandlot, but that movie came to home video when I was 8 and playing Little League so it was perfectly positioned to be a formative experience for me.
Oh, Coming to America as well, which I watched far too young to understand much of the humor.

IF THIS IS A CONSULAR'S SHIP WHERE IS THE AMBASSADOR
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
There are few actors I can think of that even come close to the presence that he had.

I've watched this dozens of times over the years and it remains as genuinely spellbinding and hard hitting a performance every time as much as the first.

I genuinely thought I was ready. Turns out I’m not ready.
Does not bode well for when Sir David Attenborough finally passes. This has hit me right in the feels in a way I did not expect,

I've always loved this little sequence, just unsettlingly calm delivery, that nonetheless makes you scared shitless

Dammit. Mark Hamill is going to be so sad.
I didnt appreciate this, but the fact that his voice stands out in a series of unique sounds is fascinating
just let your soulllll glowwwwww
I still laugh my ass off evrytime Darrell's parents get up from the couch and you see the giant soul glow stains.

Yet strangely, I always think of him in one role above all else, because it's so out of left field from my normal memories of him.

Edit: Apparently he was the last surviving cast member.
