Best Movie/TV Show Fight Scene

of course, need to mention the fact that Thomas Jane accidentally stabbed Kevin Nash with the real knife instead of the prop, and that's the take used in the scene
The stairway fight from The Protector. Hard to argue with the impressiveness of the one shot portion. I'd put up most of the fight scenes in this movie.

I used to have a giant collection of action movies, but I gave them away
Martial arts...
Shaw Brothers films, wuxia stuff, Sammo and Jackie and Bruce... jet li and Donnie yen
I used to really love Ong Bak, but I haven't watched it in ages.
Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub were all great
Gun play stuff... I really soured on all of it, but I used to be a big fan of Hong Kong blood opera stuff
A better tomorrow and the second one had some insane fights, as did the killer and hard boiled

I liked Bourne Ultimatum as a movie, but the action in Identity was much better. Everything was short and did a better job of establishing why he was so dangerous. The fights just felt more vicious.
The shaky cam worked in the Bourne movies because it fit the frenetic feel of the fights. It just sucks in a lot of other movies who took inspiration from it, but used it as a way to disguise weaker choreography not to make the scene more intense.
A lot of it is because of the fight itself - raw, ugly, dirty, not cool or fun at all, just very real. But a big part is also how they ramp up to it, showing the two of them getting ready, hyping themselves up, etc. and also showing the aftereffects and how hard it hits Dan, cold-blooded killer that he is, because of the circumstances.
You've also been waiting for this encounter all season, it's a really satisfying payoff to a pretty long setup.
edit: it also does a great job of showing just how quickly you'd get gassed in an all-out street fight if you're not a highly conditioned fighter/actor.

Imitated pretty well many times in 20+ years, but never topped.
Yes, and I think their fight in Once upon a Time in China 2 was better, they fight with staffs in a factory or something and on a bunch of scaffolding and they use the staffs to hit and throw things at each other
It's also one of the cooler fights that have been staged in a movie, I should have put it in my post. Them on a bridge quietly imagining things and then going eh, fuck it, rules so hard.
that's how it ended in my memory, I could be remembering it wrong.

I always love the Keith Mars and Aaron Echolls fight scene. It's such a grim, realistic fight where both guys use whatever weapons they can find and kind of suck at fighting.
But the most realistic fight is the three way brawl in Pineapple Express.

It isn't much for technique but I think my favorite fight in a movie, in terms of narrative payout, is the final fight in Hot Rod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELpItLsTKgY
For my money this is Donnie Yen's best fight scene, it's really creative and grounded enough to still feel convincing. Grappling tends to not be very cinematic, it's harder to communicate who's winning or what someone is trying to do, and this is Yen kinda experimenting with that, finding the best balance between realism and clear physical action.
Also Donnie Yen's a great action star buuuut most of his fight scenes have a bit of an ego problem, he tends to win every fight pretty easily, never looking bothered or sweating. This is one of his rare fights where he gets as good as he gives.
Not sure if the audio is good on this clip, I've got no speakers here.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

It really felt like Donnie Yen had found a crew to work with to move fight choreograpy towards this kind of larger-than-life mixed martial arts form, but then the rise of wuxia and his Ip Man series kinda stunted that.
Speaking of adapting specific fighting styles to film, the one take fight from Creed is an impressive piece of filmmaking, and supposedly is truly one shot, rather than a bunch of sneaky cuts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29eJVKSYMvQ&ab_channel=DKMC

I think it's gotta be the final fight in The Legend of the Drunken Master.

I can sure as hell find weird fan edits of them "fighting" each other as different characters in different movies, and some weird obviously ai crap

I don't know if I have a best-fight-scene-ever, but rooftop fight between Jack Chan and "Punch Guy and Kick Guy" is definitely a top 5 for me:

Pick whatever one you want - I'm not gonna argue (Rolls Royce fight had better be in the conversation, tho).
