So did anyone else watch it after the Sopranoes ended? I liked it enough so I'll tune in for the next couple.

For those who don't know it's a show about 3 generations of surfer dudes who have weird stuff happen to them when this guy named John shows up. This is the best I can do, and it's better than the wiki last I checked.

I had the same reaction as when I first watched Deadwood, hated it. I'll try to get into it but I'm doubt it will become as endearing as Deadwood eventually became to me. The characters seem really obnoxious and what they say doesn't seem to have any sense, while the characters in Deadwood at first I didn't fully understand but realized that there was actual substance to their dialogue.

I like this show more than Deadwood now. I can't believe most of the critics panned it. Fucking hacks.

There were people calling it 'the next Twin Peaks', which always sets off my bullshit radar because they said that shit about fucking Millennium and Eerie, Indiana, but now that JfC's over everyone seems to have loved it. I'm going to have to give it a whirl.

I've loved it. It's honestly a great show to watch when you need to relax. Everything that's happenening is just so weird that you have to just let it happen and stop thinking about it.

It's even more aimless and ridiculous than Twin Peaks a lot of the time, but if you don't go in expecting too much you'll probably enjoy it. All the dialogue from Ed O'Neil alone made it worth it for me.

Though be warned, some of the actors are pretty bad because they're long-time surfers and first-time actors.

I didn't think Twin Peaks was that aimless. At least, up through the resolution of the Palmer murder I found it very...aimful?

    Well, JFC is thoroughly aimless.

I'm in two minds about it - I love some of the characters, the dialogue is great (as per Milch), and the acting is generally really good (with a few exceptions) - but it's so meandering and silly that I can't wholeheartedly love it.

I'd say it was ok up until they found the killer, then became ridiculously aimless and silly. Though it has been a while since I watched it, I just remember that feeling. All that springs to mind is a very stupid arc about a woman with superhuman strength, three of the kids doing a sing along for some reason, and a midget dancing backwards on a bed.

I missed this thread when it was first around, but thank you for bringing it back.

    this show is excellent.

I didn't know what critics said, but I know that not one person I know in real life (and I thought on here, though I feel much better now) watches it, no matter how good I tell them it is.

I liked it enough to keep watching, but the 7th episode (with the speech... you know) is the one that hooked me.

you do have to get over that the kid can't act (but he's a surfer, so I don't care) and that the mother is the most pain in the ass character ever (but she's supposed to be). those were the only two things that bothered me, but I got past them quick.

it is silly, but I think was got me slowed down on liking it was wondering oooh who is this guy supposed to be?

when i started just relaxing, I realized the best thing about the show was watching each piece of information flow through all the characters.
