Hi! I'm at VCU arts right now, just finished up my second year, and here's some of my stuff =) these are personal pieces... most of this is less than three months old...I'm still trying to figure out a good digital painting technique.
I used photoshop 7 to make all these thingies.

self-portrait from a mirror...this was my first digital painting

I really have nothing to contribute other than to say they're all pretty awesome.

I'd stick to original art though, it seems like everyone likes to draw WoW stuff, but overall though the work is great imo :D

I'm not particularly well versed in this criticising thing but I think in the 7th pic (With the red-head drinking a slushie and the kid with the vampire) The red-head's centre of gravity is too far to the left. I think I get what you were trying to do, but her torso doesn't curve far enough to the right for her to be on balance and so it seems like she's falling over.

You're very highly skilled, I don't doubt you'll do well in whatever medium you choose. All the work I see here shows a good eye for composition, lighting and value.

That being said, I think you might want to look at Painter 10 - it's built for the kind of digital canvas work you're doing. The interface is more obtuse than photoshop, and its ability to edit images is meagre, meaning you'll still need Photoshop for touch-up work, but its brush engine is second to none. Try some stuff out with watercolors and you'll see what I mean.

You can find the trial here.

Oh, and welcome to the AC!

Very nice. I'd like to see some traditional medium pieces if you have any.

There are a few anatomical errors in your pieces, but overall everything seems pretty nice. Your self-portrait is especially perty, and your rendering throughout is very nice. I think changing up your brushes every now and then when you're doing textures would be a good idea, though - it seems that you're only using one, and just varying your colors. It also may be a good idea to work on creating a "main focus" on your more heavily-textured pieces...like the little river/waterfall one, for example - there's a lot of texture everywhere, and it doesn't seem like there's any specific place you'd like to draw the viewers' eyes to, aside from the center "bright spot", which could be another crit - it's best not to have to main focus smack dab in the center, as putting it somewhere else tends to create a more interesting composition.

Overall you've got really nice stuff, and I hope you end up posting more! :)

thank you all for responding =)
Cheebahawk: hehe thank you.. I have a lot of original characters but I am less likely to put them up online...it's less of a big deal if my fanart gets stolen.
Typhus: you are right, I wasn't happy with how that pose turned out. I think I was going for "rocking back an forth in slurpie-related ecstasy" but it wasn't successful :X
Rolo: (creepy icon!) I have wanted Painter for ages but my computer is pretty ancient and doesn't have room for any more programs.. once I upgrade my machine I believe I will make the investment...it looks fantastic =D
SpongeCake: yes she has...that's what you get for reclining on big thorny plants I guess!
    Sam: danke =)
Virum: I don't have a scanner or a digital camera at the moment...but if it's not digital for me I really like colored pencil and acrylic ink, and I'm trying to get into oils but they are pretty expensive =/
galen: ahaha...you are too late I'm afraid ;)
NightDragon thank you for the critique! only recently have I discovered the wonderful things you can do with brushes in PS...I tried them out on the environment but I got so carried away that I completely forgot about composition :X I was being bad..
