So by B-Day and Fathers day are pretty close together, and for some reason different family members independently got me about $70 in itunes. This is great, except for the fact I have no idea where to start spending.
No genre is safe! Suggest anything! For instance I have an existing library that ranges from James Carter (Sax God) to Dave Matthews/Rusted Root/The Doors (I went through a hippy phase in HS) to Timberlake (Wife convinced me=P) some classics like Steve Miller Band, Floyd, Zeppelin, some Final Fantasy Orchestrated numbers, some Christian Ska and big band.
Don't buy music. Buy TV Shows, maybe movies. The Office is a fantastic purchase on iTunes, though pretty much whatever show you like watching will work. Lost is great, too, especially considering it's twice as long as the average TV show. The only problem is, once you start, you can't stop, and it isn't quite as easy as The Office to just go back and watch for the old episodes.
I strongly, strongly recommend buying TV shows and movies, like someone else said. They have Heroes season 1 for $40 or $50, and movie are pretty cheap.

I was looking at Heroes. I may grab that, but would still have about $20-$30 bucks to diversify my library, so keep these great (and obscure to me) music recommendations coming!
Since you mentioned Final Fantasy music, you might want to check out some of the Black Mages stuff they have on there- from what I understood, it's a side project by Nobuo Uematsu, they perform a lot of the FF stuff, only with electric guitars and such.
If you want to hear some new bands, Pandora's obviously the best choice, but also look at the soundtracks to Garden State and Last Kiss, they both have a big variety of mostly lesser-known artists.
Well, as long as you want music recommendations...my musical tastes stray pretty far from what you listed, but if you're willing to go out on a limb, a few of these guys have free songs and stuff so you could download a bit and see what you think. These are all over the place; poppy, folksy, rocky, whatever.
My current favorites are:
Modest Mouse
Architecture in Helsinki
Imogen Heap
The Shins
TV On the Radio
And bands I will frequently be found listening to:
Sufjan Stevens
The Decemberists
The Flaming Lips
The Violent Femmes
The Unicorns
The Postal Service
The Raconteurs
The White Stripes
Neutral Milk Hotel
Cloud Cult
Death Cab for Cutie
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
The Cardigans
Built to Spill
Broken Social Scene
Bright Eyes
Belle and Sebastian
The Animal Collective
The Arcade Fire
Beirut
Of Montreal
If you liked the Rhapsody stuff you listened to you should check out Battlelore. They're kind of a death metal band that sings about LotR, but I'm not sure if they're on Itunes. Also Kamelot, particularly Ghost Opera and Black Halo.
Regardless of what music you listen to: you will like Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.
Also: Jeff Buckley.
If you're in the US, you could try out pandora and see what it comes up with.
Is the Christian Ska band The Skashank Redemption, by any chance?
No on Skashank (they are not on itunes =( ),
No wonder, they've stopped a few years ago and the only reason I know of them is because of turnuptheska.com. Same goes for Ask My Cat
actually Supertones(Some Five Iron Frenzy too). The big band group is Denver and the Mile High Orch.
Oh, alright, decent choice. If you didn't listen to them specifically because of their Christianity: You might enjoy Streetlight Manifesto and/or Mad Caddies. Otherwise: I ran into a list of Christian Ska bands on Wikipedia, although I'm fairly sure half the bands on there would not identify themselves as Christian music per say.
Tokyo Ska sounds awesome from the few clips I heard.
You owe it to yourself to download at least one song from Sonata Arctica. I, and many others, consider Ecliptica to be the best album. I would suggest Black Sheep, Full moon, and Kingdom for a heart especially.
!!!
Arcade Fire
Bloc Party
Broken Social Scene
Death From Above 1979
Hot Chip
M.I.A.
Metric
Modest Mouse
MSTRKRFT
Nine Inch Nails
Of Montreal
Stars
Sufjan Stevens
The Chemical Bros
The Mars Volta
The Rapture
Thom Yorke
TV on the Radio
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I just burned about $30 on itunes...here's my take:
Eric Clapton: Unplugged (whole album)
Pearl Jam, about 9 of my favorite songs of theirs
Bob Seger, from the greatest hits about 7 songs
And some various Hendrix songs from his Blues album, along with a little bit of Santana
If you like electronic anything, you'll probably like these guys. They're a French band, though they sing in English; I can't for the life of me figure out why that is.
Check out "Everything is Everything" and "Victim of the Crime" off of Alphabetical, then "Too Young" and "If I Ever Feel Better" off of United. Their new album (It's Never Been Like That) never really grew on me, but "Long Distance Call" is a good song.

If you like electronic anything you like stereolab more.
Plus they're an English band that has some songs sung in french.
Also, Ratatat is interesting; they're almost all instrumental, built mostly upon sampling awesome guitar riffs. Check out the album Classics, specifically "Lex" and "Wildcat" to start.
Well, I'd recommend Searching for the songs "A Thousand Words" and "Heretic" by the band Scarborough. They're a small indie band in Florida you might like.... <.< >.>
Also i recommend SECRET MACHINES. They still pretty unknown and have 2 albums out,
NOW HERE IS NOWHERE and TEN SILVER DROPS. If you just want to dabble a bit, check out these songs:
SAD AND LONELY
NOWHERE AGAIN
LIGHTNING BLUE EYES
ALONE, JEALOUS, AND STONED
Get music by MUSE. Hands down the most talented trio in modern rock today, and that's not opinion, the bible says so.

Pulled the trigger on The Magic of Wizard's Dreams w/ Christopher Lee. Not sure on the others, and from the reviews iTunes is missing some fan favs.

Journey (fuck you, Sopranos), particularly Frontiers or Raised on Radio
James Taylor = if they have One Man Dog its a nice album with a few instrumentals
Peter, Bjorn, and John = Writer's Block
Eric Prydz's single Call on Me (plus the video, although iTunes only carries the daytime/less risque version)
I would agree with everyone else that the TV shows are a better value though, since it's not hard to find CD's for not much more than on iTunes.
ignor everyone else, prioritise Saul Williams.
Wow, I'm not familiar w/ his work. I may be doing him injustice when I say this, but he's a great poet.
check out this, this and this

Yes. But pick up Funeral before Neon Bible.
I would also like to recommend Sufjan Steven's Illinois.
For when you want hard rock.
I recommend Satellite (album)
Yes!!!
If you don't like 'Chicago', 'John Wayne Gacy Jr.', or 'Decatur...', I will be astonished.
