I enjoyed this NYT photo slideshow immensely. A very interesting mix of images and backgrounds.

Some of those are pretty funny, but then there is that one slide that just made me feel really really sad. It was like a punch to the gut.

I'm very sure of which one you're talking about, and yes, absolutely. Also, did I read that right? Hours a week: 80?

Well, judging by the picture, the poor guy doesnt look very fit for life. I mean he looks border line bubble boy.

If I was a bubble boy.....I would spend 80+ hours a week on a MMORPG too.

Some of my older gamer friends that are big RPG players are partially that way because of various disabilities. Not being able to work anymore and physically being unable to handle action games means they basically only play PC RPGs and MMOs when they don't have nephews over (for which they'll make a show of playing fighting games or whatever). Typically not 80+ hours a week, but still a good amount.

I'm standing by my initial, hilarious impression.

Though if you want to delve into it deeply enough that's kind of funny too.

That was a pretty fun photo feature although the number of games they took avatars from was sorta small. I'm not a fan of WoW but the most popular MMO should have had more than one example. City of Heroes was very prominent for some reason.

A thread of this sort would be fun.

You mean G&T Folk posting their pic along with their MMO of choice character pic?

I imagine it might have been because the avatars in WoW aren't very customisable compared to City of Heroes and Second Life.

Ailin Graef was on some documentary I saw on TV not too long back. Apparently she got a huge tattoo on the back of her avatar and later decided to get the same tattoo engraved onto her own back.

It was a nice tattoo. Pity Google isn't finding it.

This slideshow was done about two years ago; whenever it was WoW was still in beta or early retail I believe.

All my friends always tell me how right I read.

Anyway, G&T doing this may not be an entirely awful idea.

Your character in WoW is not a unique and special snowflake.
