I've heard that Seattle is one of the worst cities in the US to drive in. I live in Wisconsin and was wondering if I should drive there or fly and use taxis/busses. I've driven in Chicago and I hated it. Anybody who drove last year, how was it? Thanks.
Heh, heh. Lisa, vampires are make-believe, just like elves, gremlins, and eskimos.

I live here and learned to drive here, it really isn't that bad. It takes a shitload of time to get anywhere during the morning (7-9) and afternoon (3-6). Just plan on it taking longer to get anywhere in Seattle.
It was busy traffic during rush hour, but hey that's to be expected in any city. It wasn't that bad, and most of the places around there are easily accessable by walking once you find parking.
The only thing is that I still maintain that the U.S. has narrow as hell streets compared to the great white north. That was the only adjustment....that and the speeds of like 140km EVERYWHERE, opposed to the 90km here in the mountains.

Seattle is a beautiful city (love the view coming over that bridge into the downtown area), but a pain to drive in... So many one way streets and places where you can't turn left. Even so, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. Last year I ran into a few guys from PAX at the Space Needle... Sigh, good times. This PAX I'm going to make sure I bring a good camera.
Seattle is kinda bad to drive in, but luckily, it's not in Seattle...
yeah, its in Bellevue [across Lake Washington from Seattle]
there are plenty of hotels in and around Bellevue so you wont have to deal with any traffic. they also added 2 exits from 405 in Bellevue, so its even easier to get into Bellevue. last PAX, everyone stayed at the Double Tree [i was hoping for quadruple tree myself] and its almost in walking distance. personally, i live 5 minutes from PAX.
i repeat, there is not reason to be worried about traffic.

Driving is a lot friendlier here than in Chicago.
However... the drive from Wisconsin / Illinois (I drove out here from Rockford when I moved) is very looooooooong.
I guess it won't be too bad during summer, but I came during winter, and the weather east of here was nasty. Luckily there's some sorta lake effect going on in the Seattle area where it doesn't get cold.
Yeah, I found that really fucking creepy, half expecting zombies to jump out of the alleyways or something.
I think it's because the downtown is all office buildings, and nobody lives there or comes down there on weekends or holidays. That has its upsides, too, as we pretty much pwn Bellevue for PAX weekend.

And if you're lucky, free parking.

I was just trying to explain that to someone... It was like a fucking ghost town. But inside the malls in Bellvue people were everywhere. Very weird.

People in Bellevue love to shop, so I hear...
thats why I'm gonna get there fairly early in the morning.
3000 pax attendees + the native shopping population= headache :?
