Aye fellow PA'ers!
This was my first attempt at case modding, and I'm just looking for some constructive criticism!
I rebult an older computer with 2001 era parts, and I've only installed a few Blizzard games that run great on an older rig. This inspired me to make a blizzard themed case, so this is how it turned out.
I made a stencil of the blizzard logo, then cut the logo out on painters tape, on the windows of the case. I painted over the tape Bliz logo, once the paint was dry, i removed the tape revealing the translucent Blizz logo. The case is backlit with four blue cathodes, two on each side panel. The rest of the case was painted with two differant black paints. One is a textured paint, the paint on the window is just regular black spraypaint. I taped off the areas where I wanted to avoid painting, then when everything was done the tape was removed.
I'm not sure what kind of case this is, it's quite a few years old and I bought it second hand.
The clarity of the pics isnt that bad, you can still make out the mod and how it came out.
Better pics!
Heres a pic with daylight and no backlighting, you can see a lot of the imperfections, but w/e. Also note the two textures of paint used. Flat black was used on what was the clear window (around the logo) and the textured paint was everywhere else.

A better view with backlighting and also note the textures.

Here you can see that primer was used before the black paint was applied... Also the setup for the cathodes. They're attached using the velcro that was included with the lights.

How the Blizz logo was done.
1. Print out the Blizz logo of the appropriate size for your case.
2. Cut the letters out
3. Apply painters tape on the transparent windows.
4. Loosely attach the stencil to the painters-tape-covered window.
5. Spray paint over the stenciled area so when the stencil is removed you have a perfect replica of the logo on the window. (note the painters tape is still on at this time)
6. Use a hobby knife to cut around the letters. After you've cut around the logo, remove all the tape except the blizz letters.
7. Now the only thing on the case should be the painters taped letters of the logo. Now paint the area. Once paint is dry, remove the lettering, revealing the transparent logo.
Next time I'll be sure to take step by step pics. Again thanks for all the compliments!

How did you do that
or ones that don't take 5 days to load?
heehe
Thanks for sticking to the OP. Anyways, I'm at work so I cannot access a better place to host images. It will be fixed with better pictures with better load times.
Kastle
Thanks! It took about 4 hours all the way through.
As someone who has built several custom cases I suggest the following:
1. Clear pictures. You could have a case featuring the only known naked pictures of Natalie Portman from Closer and without clear pictures it's boring to look at.
2. Explain how you did it. Other people might be interested in using the same techniques etc. and it generates more interest in your project.
I think you have a neat case there but did you just replace the side window? Did you do anything else? You gotta explain this stuff bro.
A tip on clearer pictures: Since you're not using flash (good, don't) put your camera on a table or something that's flat and just press the shutter button. do not hold it in your hand. A tripod is best but i doubt you have one.
"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
Damn. I was thinking like, 4 days.
One question I have that is tangible, is how much weight did the paint add to the case overall? The case doesn't look like something you'll be LANing around with anyway, but just curious.
I'd be worried about the textured paint chipping and collecting dust in the crevices of the texture, but other than that, nice work on the stencils and the tape. :rotate:
I wonder why..
Thanks man, when I get home and have the time to post better pics and fully describe the process. The side panels had clear windows with nothing on them before, the rest of the computer was just aluminum not painted. Before the mod, it was simply silver with the windows on the side.
For the mod, I taped/stenciled/cut/painted the windows. The overall weight of the case really isnt bad at all, I had no problem just lifting it to and from the place i did the mod. I wouldnt mine lanning it at all.
This afternoon I'll deffinately take better pics, unlit and lit up and clear pics of the texture part of the case.
Thanks for the great replies!
It's blurry because it's moving SO fast!
i would have used frosting acid and frosted the panel and left it clear and perhaps frosted the edges of the panel, giving an icy effect.
other than that, looks darn good
Also, how DID you get the blizz logo on the window again?
