Things to Do in Melbourne When You're Dead

Well, actually, alive. But I like the title of the movie so yeah you get the point.

My girlfriend and I are going to Melbourne July 4th to the 16th and are looking for cool things to do. So far, I've lined up this little puppy

http://www.acmi.net.au/pixar.aspx - The world's largest exhibition dedicated to the art of animation comes from the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and makes its only Australian appearance at ACMI.

But does anyone have any other idea of whats going on around Melbourne or any cool ideas what to do?

    Yep! http://www.winterwonderland.biz/ww_docklands/index.htm

Ice skating if that's your thing! Go to a night one to avoid all the kiddies.

I second the acmi- pixar exhibition. I plan to go myself.

Word. Geelong play Collingwood at the MCG on the 14th. If both sides keep up their form it will be a hell of a match.

There's a pack of cards that you can buy in melbourne that has a different pub on every card. Go see if you can find a pack while you are there and entertain yourself.

I'm visiting Melbourne right now from Brisbane. I'm alternating between staying with friends and family. I've gotten into this awesome pattern of waking up, listening to music with whoever I'm staying with (usually some sort of classical/baroque music), meeting the sisters for lunch on their break, staying in town and eating my own weight in delicious food (Jesters pies, Laurent donuts, dumplings, coffee, pork/custard buns and such). In the arvo we usually do touristy stuff, visiting museums, markets, aquarium etc, and if we can't be fucked it usually devolves (or evolves) into a few dozen rounds of Soul Calibur 2.

My favourite thing to do in Melbourne is just walk down Swanston street in town and buy food and clothes and stuff.

Make sure to check out the information station by the train depot. Lots of good information. Also it's near a lot of stuff.

There are shitloads of malls there, a casino with a mall attached, a China Town with I think a Chnese theater, there's the beach with so many shells, the various cultural areas, there's this one Pizza place with fancy pizzas that has Cupie Dolls for mascots, and a deviant book store advertising itself with an orgasming anime girl sign, a coffee shop where they roast the beans in-house and you can watch it through a glass wall, lots of ethnic areas, some parks, various sized museums, a zoo, an aquarium, a film museum, various stadium things (Musicals and sports and whatnot), and even some "goth cabaret dinner comedy shows." MULTIPLE. Check the phone book.

There's even a taco bell somewhere, and a Mexican bar or restaurant or something by the water in front of the casino.

Oh, and prepare for any kind of weather regardless of season.

That Amazing Anatomy exhibition opens July 1st, I think. You know, that one with all the plastinated corpses playing tennis?

Pack some warm clothes. It's been an unusually cold winter so far.

Everywhere Incenjucar mentioned is either in the CBD or the inner suburbs and can be easily reached by tram. Buy a weekly Met ticket and you'll be set.

There are heaps of music venues with stuff on every night of the week. The Forum is a great place to see a band.
