I ordered an acer 22" widescreen monitor and a new videocard, they're coming in 3 days. Heres my specs:
intel pentium d 2.8 dual core cpu
evga 7600gt 256mb video card
1gig of ram
I've been out of the pc gaming loop for a long fucking time now and I'm ready to get back into it. I like FPS and action games in general. Crackdown for xbox was the most fun game I played so far this year.
I'm thinking of half life 2: episode 1 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but I don't know how they'll run and there is no demos for them...I don't want to waste $50 on something i cant play.....I've heard Oblivion is good but I tried it for a bit on 360 and I couldn't figure out where to go. What about counter strike:source ....never played it, is it good? My friend also lent me the original deus ex but i havent touched it yet. Also is there any word on battlefield 2? I'm also thinking of buying quake 3 off amazon cuz I heard its cool even though its 7 years old now.
Quake 3 is very fun but only if you have friends to play with.
Counterstrike Source is great fun also.
You would probably enjoy F.E.A.R. and almost any source game.
is RAM a big deal in gaming? There was some problem with this motherboard where it can only read it on one channel thats why I dont have 1.5 gigs of it.

From my experiences RAM and graphics card are the two most important factors by a large margin in gaming. I noticed clear improvements in every game I owned when I upgraded from 1 gig to 2 gigs of RAM, and when I upgrade from a 7600GT to an 8800GTS I hope to get the same level of improvement. Despite this, you should be able to turn the settings down and play just fine, and Source runs remarkably well on lesser computers, despite how great it looks.

The memory on your video card is fine... 256 is completely adequate for every game on the market today. 512 is overkill.
Your system memory could use a boost to 2gig when you get the chance, but you're ok for now. Half-Life will run maxed out on everything, I'm sure (or damn close)... S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I'm not so sure about. It will run well, but probably not at ultra-pretty-mode. Still, both games are damn solid choices.
If you're into MMOs, Lord of the Rings Online will make your system scream with its hotness, and it's a fun game to boot. Titan Quest for some good Diablo-style action.
I always have fun throwing old games onto new systems, just to see how much more awesome they look... I remember upgrading my system about 2.5 years ago (-sigh-), and throwing on Deus Ex, Independance War 2, and Call of Duty, just to see how awesome they looked.
yeah once I get a job I'll def. get another stick of it. Its weird though, when I check the system information it says that I only have 960mb of memory.
Also...steam is pretty popular and I downloaded that. If I want to buy stalker though do I really have to go to freakin gamestop?

However I have 2GB of RAM and 512MB of memory on my video card. At the very least you should be able to play smoothly on lower settings.
Edit: What TheSythe said I pretty much support.
