E-mailing photos to your Wii

How the hell is this done?

I can get pictures from my cell phone to my Wii by just forwarding the email I send to my regular email account. It's getting any picture on my hard drive that I want to know.

First, I tried to send a photo from my phone now on my hard drive to the wii in a new message. I got the message but no picture.

Second, I simply forwarded the message I got from my phone to the Wii. It worked.

Third, I tried to send any other photo on my hard drive to myself, then forward what I would receive to my Wii. Got a message, but no picture.

I thought it was because I was sending a jpg in my "new message" instead of the bmp in the "forwarded message". I just now tried sending a bmp as a new message, and now the email is getting rejected altogether.

WTF? How I can make this work?

It has to be attached to the e-mail. Not linked to in the e-mail or anything. Gif and Jpeg only probably.

But I did attach them.........is there another way of attaching? Hotmail, that is?

And the original photo was a bitmap. In the original email from my phone, then forwarded to the Wii, I could get to the photo in the Wii.

Edit: Wait a sec, in hotmail when I go to attach anything, I selected "file" and not "picture". Would that really make a difference?

It worked without a problem.

What resolution is your picture at? Mine was 640x480.

I also used my gmail account. I don't know if hotmail is any different. But it was sent immediately, and I was able to open it.

How the fu....

Phone pic bitmap, the one that would only be on the Wii if it was the original message forwarded to it, is 320x240.

The example pic from my hard drive is 350x335.

Do you have a gmail account? Try using that instead. Hotmail is trash vs Gmail. It's free too... You can just setup a quickie account if you wish, and give that a shot.

Have you sent a message from your Wii to your email address? If so, have you replied back to that message? I'm sure you've done this, but I'm just backtracking.

something along the line may have auto-scaled it down to fit some file size limit, like photobucket does to large images.

I'm not sure if I did that, but I'll try it now. I'll try two. One for jpg and one for bmp.

And no, I don't have gmail.

Yeah you have to do it this way:

1. Add your email address to your Wii.
2. You'll receive a message in your email inbox saying your Wii wants to add you as a Wii Friend.
3. Reply back to the email with something like "okay"
4. Your Wii should be able to get the message back.

After that you should be golden.

I've been able to send messages to and from my Wii to my email address no problem. I've just never done it with a picture before. That's why I don't understand why there's a problem.

And so far I haven't been given a message failure notice. Looks like I'll have to check my Wii soon. (*crosses fingers*)

JPG mail: Received but no picture.
BMP mail: Rejected again.
Replying from my Wii to my email address from the mail that was forwarded to the Wii (that is, replying using the only message that has received the picture): Message received in email address, but no picture.

Edit: O,FFS! So you know how I said this entire time I've been trying to attach the pictures from hotmail under "attach > file"? Well, I tried to do it with "attach > picutre". Up comes a screen saying to download this thing to make it work, click install, and "Unable to install" appears. So apparently it just won't fucking let me do it!

I'm sure I could if I had an SD card without any problems, but I didn't think this would be as problematic as it seems.

To make them into waggle puzzles, or possibly doodle on them?

For me, I think... I don't *need* to have my pictures on my Wii, but, I should be able to. I can e-mail back and forth, why can't I send a picture? It should work, but it is being difficult.

That alone would bug me enough that I'd keep trying until I could actually get it to work.

Like I said, the only thing that worked is a picture sent from my phone to my email address, which was then forwarded to the Wii.

Edit: Okay, trying with another email address and starting from scratch. Waiting for the Wii-mail of "Hey, reply so we can do shit!"

I have an update!

1) Hotmail sucks for this. Maybe it's to be expected considering MS and Ninty are rivals? ;-) All I'm getting is the text.

2) Bitmaps just will not get sent to the damn thing, except for the original way I got my first photo to it. I really don't know why.

3) My other email address has successfully sent a jpeg to my Wii. There was much connecting/disconnecting/reconnecting for some strange reason during the time my mail was getting sent to the Wii, even though I use the NWC dongle, but the end finally came. Hooray for everything! Those of you on my messaging list, expect a happy Jigglypuff over the next few days.

4) Speaking of the messaging list, I need 6 new Wii friends to replace the ones I just erased. 6 months later and still haven't been able to confirm matching messaging codes? Yer outta there!
