[Suggestions for birthday presents on] What the hell do I ask for?

edited June 2007 in Games and Technology
it's my birthday in a weeks time, and my parents want to spend about £75 on me. I have no idea what to get, I have a massive backlog of games at the moment, so really don't want to get any moe games until I have got through that, I have a Wii but only have zelda, wii play and wii sports, but the launch period games I want are due a price drop in the next month or so, so I am waiting (When Excite Truck and Sonic drop sub-£15 they will be mine) I've got all the DS games that I really really want, and don't want to get any more until my backlog has a chunk out of it.

Other than that, my PC has no obvious bottlenecks, and don't intend on upgrading untill I graduate uni in 2 years time.

I buy all my own clothes, and certainly wouldn't want my parents to pick out any for me. There is the odd CD I want, but I generally tend to wait for CDs to drop in price too.

Basically, I am a poor student used to pushing my little disposable income as far as possible, and have no idea what to do now that I have £75 to spend on myself...if I can't think of anything I may just ask for them to wait till I have enough for a 360 and they can contribute, but I don't think they will like that.

So any cool idea's for stuff to get, I would prefer one big present to loads of small ones, but am pretty open minded to anything. Suggest as random stuff as you want, doesn't have to be games/technology, but that's where my interests lie (obviously)

Thanks alot.

    Thanks alot.

Would they be against just getting you a gift card to a game store? Then you can just save it towards a 360 if you want.

Perhaps some peripherals? Like more wiimotes or a racing wheel or stick for your comp.

I think so, but anyway, I would then be tied to one particular store, and if there was a better offer elsewhere I would be screwed (I hate gift certificates with a passion)

Hmm, I could do with a second nunchuck, although it would litterally just be for 2 player Wii boxing atm.

no I don't, but I have several friends with old guitars I could have for free if I wanted...

    Nah I was joking.

As a student some expensive jeans or shoes can go a long way where other gifts would be a little shallow.

Maybe a really smart sports jacket, or maybe even a suit.

I think clothing is the way to go, unless you are dead set on some electronics.

My parents got me an omega on my 21st and Im not kidding when I say Ill be wearing this watch my entire life. Pure quality.

I allready have an awesome fossil watch, and I am trying to get into shape atm, so even if I did get some nice clothes they (hopefully) would be too big in a while.

I am by no means dead set on some electronics, and any suggestions are appreciated.

What's a DS run for over there? You could get some portable gaming on for between classes at uni.

Somehow I totally read over that section of the FP. Whoops.

If you fully read his post, you would realize he already has a DS.

Do you have many PC games that a compatible with gamepads? Maybe you could consider getting one. I got a wired 360 controller recently and it's really good as a PC gamepad.

thats a really good suggestion. I have a bunch of freeware shmups/platformers that would be great with a pad, it would open me up to a bunch of games I refuse to play on PCs with KBAM too. Thanks.

How hard/expensive is it to get everything you need to use a wireless 360 pad? is it worth the hassel?

My birthday is also in a week. I asked my parents to buy me new glasses because I need new ones but I really don't want to spend my hard earned money on glasses. My brother is buying me Pokemon Battle Revolution because it's a game I want but I don't want to pay full price. I use birthdays and Christmas to get things that go just under my purchase line.

So your birthday is a new game? Or some wacky new technology? Because I think this would go over better in another forum.

Basically you only really need the Wireless Gaming Adapter (£12ish) but the wireless controller kinda eats batteries with the rumble so you'll also want one of the rechargable battery kits, (another £10). Considering the wireless controller is a bit more expensive anyways it kinda adds up. Not that it isn't very nice though.

It's actually my birthday today :p

This is what I did. I got $150 from my folks last birthday, and I put $150 of my own money in so I could get a 360 core.

I don't know if they are available in the UK, but Visa/Mastercard offer a gift card that could be used anywhere the companies' credit cards are accepted.

I am at my own on my birthday this year, I am going to be in stockton (where I am at uni) but my uni mates will be at home, and my manchester mates are obviously back in manchester.

I plan to get a bottle of whiskey, take photo's of myself drinking, and upload them to facebook as "My 20th birthday"

Honestly my parents wouldn't want to give me money or gift vouchers, they are very enamored with the idea of having something to give me.

in that case, does anyone in the UK want Toe Jam and Earl for the megadrive? I got it in a charity shop for 50p today, and I have no Mega Drive, some slight damage to the rear of the case, and no manual, but cart is fine. PM me if you want it.

Damn, it's expensive to get a full set up of wireless 360 pad on PC, controller + charge and play + wireless adapter costs like £45+

I guess it wouldn't be too bad if you allready had the pad and charge and play kit, but I will tell my rents to get my a wired pad off play.cm for £17.99, still open to other ideas though.
