So Nintendo has finally announced the service to allow companies to make custom Wii games to distribute via WiiConnect24 over the Wii Shop Channel. Finally, new games will be hitting the Wii via the Virtual Console.
the only bad part, is that Nintendo has said that we won't be seeing any new games for it until early 2008
I'm hugely excited by this, but wish it would come sooner. Although this does give Nintendo time to release some kind of storage add on for Wii, as I'm sure I'll fill up the remainder of my 512 really fast.
Does the Wii need more storage than the SD cards? Those things are cheap and HUGE these days. I don't imagine the DLC will be overly large games, especially on the Wii, which is more function over form.
Probably just some updates to let you manage the content of those cards better and to play games right off them, unless that is also already available... My wii has not been online since my neighbor moved where his wireless router was. Damn him!
You can get a 2GB SD card for 20 bucks pretty easily these days.
The problem is that the SD card isn't read upon boot, so only internal memory channels/titles currently show up on the menu. You have to migrate games back and forth between the SD and internal to play them if you have too little space left. It's ridiculous.
Edit: What they really need to do is update the firmware so this isn't a problem. It's one of the biggest (potential) issues with the system.

What he said. I the idea, but compared to XBLA the Wii Store/VC has been kind of a let down.

Fixed.
I only say that because I thought the XBLA was a letdown. Its only saving grace is the demo feature, which kept me from buying 100% of the games.

I guess I should have been more specific. The let down has been the execution of the store itself NOT the games within.
