This is awesome. SOF II was one of my favorite games back in the day.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed by that as well. Still, the possibility of severing limbs with a shotgun again...

If it only has an updated Ghoul system or something like it I will be pleased. :) Especially if there are random mission generators and cheats to spawn npcs! A simple level editor would be better though. :( Very unlikely however.

That's basically all they've talked about...I think I read something about 36 points of separation.

They should put it into some kind of package that can be utilized by any developer. Imagine the next Hitman game with that kind of thing.

I played quite a bit of SoF2. I hope they keep the fast-paced action and maybe cut-down the aimless wandering.

BIt of a shame it doesn't have someone like Raven behind it as I'm a bit fed up of ragdolls and would rather see some nice bloody gibs for a change.

I really don't understand why more games don't have things like Ghoul in them. I can understand not taking it as FAR as ghoul, but there really isn't any excuse for realistic games to not have at least some kind of visible wound system.
Also Ghoul + Hitman = instant buy.

So many firsts in one day: my first thread on this forum, my first time having someone I don't know on said forum call me stupid because of said thread...ah the memories. I'll be sure to make note of it in my memoirs.

Regardless of the studio (or the alleged state of my mental faculties) I can't help but get excited about it. Could they fuck it up, sure (this is the same studio that does the Cabela's games after all) but I'm gonna remain a bit optimistic and hope that I can at least relive the visceral thrill of shooting someone in the kneecap.

Maybe they have to leave all that out to avoid the AO rating, now that the graphics are getting photorealistic. We shall soon find out.

Err, when did bloodyroar insult your "mental faculties"? He was just pointing out it's being made by a studio with a less than stellar track record. I didn't notice any personal attack in there. I guess it's your first time getting way too defensive about a nonthreatening post too huh?

Soldier of Fortune 2 gave me such giddy pleasure. I don't know whether to be excited or disappointed with this announcement, though. While I want a next-gen Soldier of Fortune, I'm a bit put off by it being developed through a budget studio, the same one who puts out Cabela. Have they don't anything but deer and other wild animal hunting games? And I'm not expecting a large budget for amazing effects and voice talent, either. I'll hold off being optimistic and excited for now.

If this game does not have that automatic shotgun, I will be angry.

I mean that thing just tore things apart, there would be blood EVERYWHERE.

    Not to mention limbs.

Isn't Soldier of Fortune a gun nut/mercenary magazine? I could definitely see them getting off on that.

Actually, I have been wanting to play a game that made me hesitate to use deadly force for a long time, but I don't want it to be a shooter. Because in that case, you really don't have a choice, do you?

I've been waiting on a possible SoF3 for about five years now. They better fucking make it at least enjoyable. Though, I certainly see the potential for another tragedy on the level of MOO3. Shit, come to think of it, I really didn't find SoF or SoFII to be that fantastic gameplay-wise. SoFII's multiplayer was a blast, but I'm starting to think maybe Raven just isn't that good a developer, and SoF3 would benefit from a new dev. I don't know why they're treating it like a budget title, though. SoF could easily be considered a top-tier IP.

It's interesting that SoF is one of the least controversial violent games, whilst also being possibly the most violent of all and also the most devoid of artistic compensation for said violence.

Tycho made a comment about that in one of the PA books. I can't remember which one, but he said something like Soldier of Fortune has the most gruesome hit model of any franchise, and yet it's never brought up because the people who speak out against video games have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.
