I'm playing my 20 derv through the Prophecies campaign at the moment, and I've got a new assassin and a ranger that I'm deciding between. About to take my 20 War through Nightfall too.
I usually just lurk here though.
Playing since I quit WoW again, for the last time I hope. Took me 3 70s to realize how much I hate that game.
Same thing here, i started playing GW again after i quit WoW.
I have a 20 Derv-beat nightfall with, a 20 War-beat factions with, and a 20 necro-beat proph with.
I enjoy this game alot becuase if i can not find a group or dont want to bother with one i can solo anything. My latest char is a monk, i am trying to get to 20 in pre searing so i can get the title before eyes of the north.

World of Warcraft IS a drug, if you are playing it seek rehab immediately.
I have 20 Rit I've done Factions and Nightfall with, a 20 Elementalist I've done Factions and Nightfall with, a 20 Assassin I've done Factions with, and then 6 other 20's that are all currently, simultaneously, working on several campaigns.
And by the way, I love Guild Wars. Picked it back up after WoW lost it's luster.
If anet bothered rotating the prizes I'd care. I don't want a shitty Radeon graphics card or an iPod Video. So therefore I have no drive to actually bother with the game anymore.
Personally i like the fact that i can get to the max level with out having to waste days of my life, and the story lines are amazing. If you want to fucking grind and farm you can but that is not the point of the game. PvP is also based on skill and tactics as opposed to ganking lower levels and running around like a headless chicken. Yes WoW could have been worse, all games can, but i am glad that i am not forking over 15 dollars a month for a steaming pile of cartoon crap.

I rather enjoy GW but only play it now and then as a break from WoW. I got an Assassin through the end of Factions, but haven't done much PvE in Nightfall yet. Prob won't buy the expansion right away since I'm not playing a whole lot, but I'm very interested in GW2.

I got to about 16 before noticing that I'd spent the whole time soloing. My God the community sucks. If its not idiots in the general chat, its elitist fucks in PVP. This has its advantages over WoW(Mainly the music, lack of fees and pretty graphics) but WoW still beats it.
Honestly, Guild Wars has managed to be original in the MMO community. So many other MMOs follow the same formula. Level grind, a few quests, no real plot to speak of, raiding, gear based everything. Guild Wars managed to create a world where they eliminated almost all of the gear based crap and made skills more important. Someone putting together a decent skill bar is the difference between an okay player and a great player, not to mention using them effectively. I mean, you can bring the perfect counter to almost any combat and you will still get smoked if someone knows how to outsmart you.
Plus, Guild Wars has an incredible weaving plot that encompasses three well written campaigns into one awesome story.
Not to mention the humor, I love all the little references and in-jokes. The darkness dropping the ogre slaying knife, The real genius quote in the Tihark Orchard mission, Theres tons of little fun to find stuff in there. I can't count how many times I've giggled at hidden little things like that.
Plus well... I just love the game. In my opinion paying $15 a month to suck your life down the drain with constant grinding seems rather silly. But thats just me.
This game is very well done, I just hope NCsoft doesnt get hit too hard by AutoAssualt closing. I dont htink it will but, there are people who would look at the box and see NCsoft and say 'thats crap.' Hope Eyes of the north is fun.

No, pvp is based on guessing what your opponent will bring and bring the direct counter to it.
That's why most of the good players left because that was no fun and it didn't really require skill.
Which guild were you in/what IGN? :P
What's amusing is how long it took people to realize build wars was how to win, Rifts (which I was in) gladly accepted beating 'better' players by using broken builds. :P

What was really strange though was the fact that in 6v6 HA build wars wasn't as big of an issue, but of course they had to get rid of anything that requires some kind of skill.
I play a fair bit now... I've yet to grab Nightfall though.
I'm currently playing up a Warrior/Ritualist which I'm thinking of switching to monk as secondary just cause he need some more healing/defense backup....
I love my Ranger/Ritualist and I'm working on a Elementalist/monk for PvE farming in Prophicies or something to stuff around with when I'm bored... Earth spec is kinda fun.
I'm currently in a guild called Guards of Dwynia but honestly I don't know anyone in the guild and they're almost never on.
Do we as the PA community have a guild set up or would plan on making one?
I tend to solo alot but I've got 2 or 3 people I tend to group with for missions fairly often.
PS. First EVAR post... been lurking for freaken years though. hehe

This is exactly why I solo in this game. The henchmen and Heros are good enough to get everything done. I was able to get Althea's ashes on one try and only the warrior henchman died and he only died once.

That's only because there are lot of people who play these games that won't try it on their own so they go online looking for the "right" way to play. This leads to PvP battles full of copy cat gear and tactics. Of course that is going to get boring.
One of my favorite things about this game is the lack of grinding and farming requirements. You can if you want and there are collector's all over the place for players like this but unless they have something you can use there is no point.
The henchman are decent too. Its rare that they ever let me down.

People also like to win, that's why you copy successful builds.

How successful can it be if people predict you are going to use it, and thus counter and defeat it?
I get your point, but that is like playing Rock-Paper-Scissors and always using paper.

I've been having a long argument with someone that loves GW and hates WoW and every other game like it. While I've enjoyed WoW and just can't get into GW at all. It's free, so I really *want* to play it.
But I just can't seem to get interested. Basically, to boil it down, I do not feel rewarded for playing for five minutes, much less five hours or days. I don't even know what skill I might get next.
I just feel clueless, like I'm randomly stumbling around and this quest may or may not be worth doing. Can't really handle just picking up abilities seemingly at random, without being able to plan out what kind of character I'll be playing.

Try looking up some builds (skill combinations) for your class. That will give you an idea of what to buy/capture. Better build = more fun and success. Beyond that, just take the missions in order. All three campaigns have an interesting story to tell. I don't think there are many/any quests that simply aren't worth doing, at least until the very late game of NF, and quests are the primary way you and your heroes will level.
For builds for newer players/PVE, try PvXwiki and the profession guides at GuildWiki. I'm sure someone will come and scoff at those sites, but that's because PVPers generally only like their specialized forums for builds and look down on the wikis.

So I see the expansion for this in the stores, and I wonder often to myself if they are worth picking up. Can anyone shed any insights into this?

Nightfall made that game so much more fun.

Also, I play about as frequently as Bri. Basicly when I feel the hankerin to play me something fantasy themed which isn't too often.
That is much more often than I. I don't even have it installed.

I've always been impressed that GW does more and better holiday events than any other MMO I've played.
