What?
A remake of the old Amiga Stardust for the PS3. Thinks Asteroids meets Geometry Wars. Multiple weapons with upgrades, boss fights, 5 different planets. I've played a couple of rounds now and it's bloody excellent. Full 1080p/60fps dual-analog shooting goodness with a retro demo-scene style soundtrack. It's a pity the game doesn't have the tunnel sections from the Amiga original, but it's still awesome all around. Online leaderboards are there, and local 2 player co-op is supported as well.
I saw this put up in the Playstation Store yesterday and didn't know what it was. After watching that video, I may have to get it. It looks fun as hell.
Man, this game is absolutely brilliant. It's not as hard as Geo Wars, and much more varied. While Geo Wars is all about staying alive, this has much more different elements. And it looks gorgeous. One of the best looking PS3 games for sure. (For the record, I Geo Wars. 850.000 points, but I WILL get the 1000000!)
Some gameplay things:
* Three weapons, colored red, blue and green. Each enemy (and asteroid) has a color, which indicates its weakness. Use the red weapon against red enemies and so on, this makes a huge difference. Weapon upgrade pickups cycle through the colors, so you have to time it right to get the upgrade you want. Weapons start at 0%, and every pickup addds about 8%. Using a 100% weapon feels awesome.
* Boost! With boost you can smash through enemies. Also, use boost to make a combo chain when picking up the 'points' pickups. Boost recharges, u can use it about every five seconds.
I agree with everything posted above. I have Geometry Wars on the 360 and now Stardust on my PS3 and I'm having a blast with it. Definetly worth the price of admission.
I didn't pick it up yesterday due to getting into the Warhawk beta (they admit me five days before the beta shuts down... story of my life...) but I'll pick it up tonight. Lord it's pretty - and good gameplay on the PS3? I thought they said that it couldn't be done!
It's got the addictive leaderboard/point qualities of arcade games like Geometry Wars. It's got those crazy, screen fills up with tons of shit, can't believe you made it out of that, moments.
I'm inviting my friends over tonight to try the Co-op. $8 well spent.
Funny, I'm playing on a SDtv and it takes a downloadable game to make me seriously want an HDtv for that game.
Between Warhawk beta, Ninja Gaiden next week and this, my Playstation 3 faith has been restored.
I hadn't noticed that it went anywhere. :P
Anyway, downloading now. Though I have to leave right after, so it will sit uninstalled until this evening, when it will become another two-stick shooter that I love despite how often it kicks my ass.
This game looks really awesome, but I don't know.... I always seem to really suck at those shooter type games (even though I have Blast Factor and Geometry Wars.) I enjoy them when there isn't much to do... but I just hate sucking at them so much.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the price of admission for a person such as my self?
I have a feeling I might wind up buying it anyway....
Alright, so I didn't pay much attention to this for the last couple of weeks. But, after seeing it featured on various web sites and hearing good things, I downloaded it.
This is so much better than Geometry Wars. I am an avid Geometry Wars player, I've probably played that more than any other 360 game.
Super Stardust is better. I love the way the rocks break up when you shoot them. I love the over the top arcade sound effects with "Female Computer Voice" narration.
I am giddy that I picked this up. Between this and Ninja Gaiden, I am now set for awesome action on the PS3.
I haven't tried the co-op out yet, how functional is it?

For what it's worth, Jeff from The Totally Rad Show got it and says it's a hell of a lot of fun. He just got a PS3 and talks about it in the next to last episode.

I now see that my 360 has let me down.
This and Calling All Cars is making my PS3 a fun little machine.
My 360 is [strike]back[/strike] [strike]bricked[/strike] back!

I'm only slightly better at Super Stardust HD.
I enjoy them both I was playing this til 1 am last night. It's a *great* game.
