SSB Brawl Thread: And the word "armada" refers to a large fleet of ships, of course

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

This is Jimothy.

This is the official thread for the Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, debuting December 3, 2007. Sakurai is working with all his might, so please wait just a little longer! Here is where you can discuss possibilities for characters, stages, items, etc. that may be included. We will also be discussing Sakurai's blogposts, updated every weekday on smashbros.com

Please don't argue about casual play and tournament play. I think most people are tired of it. Go ahead and poke fun if you must.

Last year Sakurai allowed Japanese fans to send in character and music suggestions, as well as ask questions about the game. SamuraiPanda's translations of these letters and responses can be found here:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=72642

This is a precious item, indeed.

These characters have been confirmed as playable:

Mario
Link
Pikachu
Kirby
Samus*
Zero Suit Samus*
Pit
Meta Knight
Wario
Snake
Fox
Zelda
Bowser
Donkey Kong

*(Sakurai, paraphrased) "Under certain conditions, Samus will remove her suit." Take that as you will and stop arguing.

There are also several stages that you can battle on. You may find that they are some of your favorite game locations!

Battlefield
Delfino Plaza
Yoshi's Island
Lylat Cruise
Bridge of Eldin
Smashville
Shadow Moses
Mario Circuit
Angel Land
Halberd
Pokemon Stadium
Some FE castle

Items add a little more hectic feeling to the match. The Smash Ball is an item that unleashes the Final Smash, a very powerful move. Bowser's Final Smash, for instance, is the Giga Bowser Transformation.

Smash Ball
Gooey Bomb
Super Scope
Cracker Launcher
Pokeball
Crates and Barrels
Banana Peel
Assist Trophy
Bumper

Pokemon:
Groudon
Goldeen
Chikorita

What’s an Assist Trophy?! Basically, they’re guest characters separate from Smash’s playable roster! Take the capsule and hold it high!

Hammer Bro
Nintendog
Samurai Goroh
Dr. Wright

Also, some pretty cool people are making music for this game:http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music01.html

There will be four methods of controlling the game (all with customizable button configurations), so choose your favorite:

Wii Remote (on its side)
Wii Remote + Nunchuk
Classic Controller
GameCube controller

This is dangerous. It's a little risky.

If you're wondering what I'm talking about, snoop around the site and check the information on the series icons. You'll find that they all have numbers attached to them. From this, we can gather that there are at least eighteen series represented in this game:

1.Smash Brothers
2. DK
3. StarFox
4. Kirby
5. F-Zero
6. Metroid
7.
8.Pokemon
9.Zelda
10. Mario
11.Yoshi
12.
13.
14.
15. Animal Crossing
16. Wario
17.
18. Kid Icarus

I will be updating the thread periodically, but if I can't make that happen, I apologize.

It's enought to make a guy cry at the end.

You should add that icon list that was found, with the spaces. Someone has it around here, it was in the old thread. Filling all of the empty spaces with all the games that were in Melee + Wario, Kid Icarus and MGS still had an extra empty space, meaning at least 1 character from a game we do not know about yet.

I was planning on that, but I don't have time right now. Trust me, I think the OP is due for a rehaul, but it'll have to wait a bit.

I haven't been following smash bros news much but am I correct in assuming that at least some of the returning characters from the previous game will play completely differently and have completely overhaulled move sets? The idea of Samus and Zero Suit Samus as a combo character seems to suggest this but from screenshots and game footage I've seen the old characters look like they play exactly the same. Have there been any official comments on this?

SO far, there is no indication of this whatsoever. From all of the videos, screenshots and previews, it appears that the returning characters are intact, with the same moves that they have had in previous games.

I think the fact that it shows Samus shedding the armor is something of a confirmation in it self.
I mean, why make two different characters, whn you can do like Zelda/Sheik did and have a combo character?

Actually, people are endlessly debating the semantics/possible translation issues of "Samus will remove her suit under certain conditions," which could potentially mean anything. Which is pretty much what I said.

At any rate. Yeah, the controls are going to be amazing... I love that we're getting four different controller configurations AND customizable buttons.

We still don't know how the "just a Wiimote" option pulls off smashes... I'm guessing waggle. That'll probably be exhausting, but fun in short bursts.

Few people realize that Game & Watch actually has some pretty great offensive capabilities. His forward air is one of the best in the game with incredible reach, neutral-air parachute has lots of power, one of the best down-tilts in the game, back-air turtle racks up damage quite nicely, up-tilt is fast and high-priority, etc.

His problem is that his defense is by FAR the worst in the game. His shield is insanely bad. It's tiny and dissipates in a hurry. This means that half the time you might as well not even have a shield because most attacks poke right through it. Then you have his weight-- one of the lightest in the game, which means death at 80% much of the time. Couple that with one of the worst, laggiest rolls in the game... and you have lost potential.

Huh, really? I don't use Game & Watch much, so that's easily possible, but I never noticed this. You'd think I would, considering the lag on the neutral-air (not so much the other moves, since they don't get used)
