I liked Serge and Kid just fine, and I think everyone thought Lynx was awesome at the time.
And if the true ending(Kid in modern times) didn't tug at your heart strings, check your pulse.
I dunno, it was a pretty classic "everything goes back to 'normal' for no apparent reason and you lose your memory, lol" ending. I got tired of them roughly in the middle of the first one I saw.
Eh, something about the music and the way she looks away from the window did something for me. Mostly the music.

I'll definitely second that much of what gives Chrono Cross impact is the score.

The one thing I don't like about those intros is that Garrett kills guards in both of them. Call me a pussy, but I always make a point of not killing anyone whenever I play Thief - it just doesn't seem to fit the character. That's probably why I like the intro to Deadly Shadows the best - no wanton slaughter. ;-)

Edit: Oh, and for those of you who love the Deus Ex intro...

I loved the chrono cross opening sequence, and the battles were ok.

But the rest of the plot? seriously? I could follow FF7, Xenogears, FF8, and all their subplots and so forth easily. I had NO idea wtf was going on in Chrono Cross.

By the time the giant spaceman attacked me then joined my party as a tiny space man I was all like "whatever, just point me in the general direction of the next boss"

And what the heck was with that last boss? geez. Chrono Trigger's last boss was awesome. Chrono Cross's was... odd.

But that intro. My gods. music is so good i have it on my mp3 player.

The plot is actually pretty simple, but I think it takes either multiple playthroughs or a trip to www.chronocompendium.com to really work out.

The music though is masterful. The best part? The opening isn't even close to the best track out there. My favorite one is the one that plays on the actual title menu. I can, and often do, listen to that while I relax in preparation of a good night's sleep.

FF 6-10 really have nice intros. All of them. 6 and 8 really stand out amongst those. I have always really liked the simple intro Capcom through together for Little Nemo:The Dream Master and Megaman 2.

I can't look them up on youtube as I'm at work but some of my favourites are:

Ripper (It had "Don't fear the Reaper" by BOC! Awesome game, lotsa famous people, an over the top amount of swearing, the word 'fuck' is dished out way too often, and the intro had a woman getting slaughtered with a 'cool' voice over afterwards)

Alien Breed: Tower Assault - First FMV intro I saw on my CD32, blatantly filmed and starred in by the programmers. Fantastic fun though!

CANNON FODDER! - War! has never been so much fun! War! has never been so much fun!
(If someone could dig up the fmv of that it'd be much appreciated :) )

Agesoft only did the localization, FROM Software in Japan made the games. But yeah, awesome intros. The only problem being, as many reviews pointed out, combat didn't look anything like those intros, at least until AC4.

Because the Soul Caliber series has always been just behind DOA in the cheesecake department... Granted, DOA is in first place by a huge margin, but still...

Funny part is, they actually CG'ed a white dress-type-thing ONTO Sophitia (in the scene where she pops out of the water) for the US Playstation release.

Metal Gear Solid 3 has an awesome intro, which I am too lazy to find on YouTube and post.

However, i will post a link to a vidoe of pretty much every FMV from Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
    (Warning! Spoilers!)
The intro is very cool, and I think RA II is much better than the first. And the acting... so cheesy... in a good way!

Fun, useless fact: RAII was the first time anyone had been allowed to film with official Lucasfilm props since the Ewok tv movies. :P

Soul Reaver 2's intro was the most intriguing of the entire series, I believe. Be warned, it contains spoilers for SR1. However, I've found SR1 unplayable whereas SR2 is pretty good, so the biggest risk you take in watching this for the first time is becoming so drawn in by the stuff hinted at that you can't help but go out and rent the game to play for yourself.

The only part of SR2 that I prefer over its predecessor is the story. The combat was rather clunky in both of them, but at least with the first it was bearable.
Fighting vampires in Soul Reaver was relatively easy; you could usually take them down in a few hits. In SR2, you have the Sarafan with their magic and their weapons, and then there are the demons, which seem to never go down. It didn't help that you had to fight them in small groups for a good portion of the game.

And call me odd, but I much rather preferred the visuals of the first over its sequel.

In SR2, you leap up, grab a demon by his horns and, with a hard twist, break his neck. SR1 was fun for using the environment to permanently kill vampires (especially in the early areas where you really feel a struggle for victory) but SR2 had a lot more style in the combat. Really both systems are clunky and I'd wish they'd rip off the God of War combat if they ever make another LoK.

    Defiance spoiler:
Wait, what? At the end of Defiance, Kain isn't in the past when the Nosgoth pillars are up - he's in the future when the Hilden monsters break free ... the events before Blood Omen 2. Does this mean there are two Kain's running around with two Soul Reavers at the end of Defiance? Also, the Elder God is 'dead' but he's supposed to exist in all times simultaneously. If he's licking his wounds and concentrating on healing, how is he raising Raziel from the dead later on?

Who's to say what happens after the end of Defiance? Given how much things have changed, I believe the way things have been are not going to be the same as what they will be.

Since Raziel's soul has entered the Reaver, even if things do turn out exactly the way they did, Kain would have no reason to cast Raziel into the pit.

But you are right about there being two Kains. If they ever do continue the series, it will be interesting to see how they roll with this angle.

Well Moebius killed Vorador in the first Blood Omen game. It's the central plot device that creates the difficulty in the decision for Kain to restore the pillars. Restore Nosgoth, or render the vampire race extinct.

No, as long as people give links I think that will be enough content.

Skygunner has an amazing intro that I watch everytime I play the game. Same for Soul Calibur II. It is the music that makes them memorable. Also, Interstate 76. That game did more with flat shaded polygons than most CG intros can do with ray tracing and render farms.

Whoa whoa whoa... Skygunner had a PS2 release? I've been playing it on my PC this whole time thinking it would be an awesome PS1 game!
