I've heard of people being able to use a USB headset for ventrilo and then use their speakers for everything else. I have no idea how to do this as the headset didn't come with drivers, windows XP just automatically configured it and my onboard sound doesn't have any controls in this area.
I use Teamspeak but Im going to assume Vent works the same way.
In a nutshell, you need to go into your windows audio control panel and tell windows to use your onboard sound for playback. Then you go into Vent and configure it to use your headset as the primary audio device. (this is also assuming the headset shows up as its own device).
