Clean My Shower

My roommate claims that these colors in the shower are a result of his old roommate spilling his shower shit. I don't know about that, but it doesn't matter now. I just want them gone!

There used to be a ton of red around too, but some Scrubbing Bubbles and a sponge got rid of that. The black and green have proven stronger.

I'd appreciate any advice for a nicer looking shower.

That really looks like mold or something similar that has worked its way into the plastic, it may or may not still be growing, but I really don't think that it came from someone dropping anything in the shower. Note that I'm talking about the black stuff, the other looks a lot like copper oxodization at least its color does.

Yeah, the black looks like mold. Just scrubbing really hard with some cleaning agent will probably work.

Ironically have you tried some sort of shower stuff, cleaner or something with a butload of solvents.
We have stuff like "Easy off bam" and the etc shower cleaner. If that doesnt work, maybe some sort of mold remover, since some of that stuff does look like mold.

Even maybe as a last resort, dilute hydrochloric acid should kill anything that is growing and can be bought relatively cheaply from a local hardware store. I would dilute whataver you buy a bit first because too strong might be able to damage your shower.

I dunno if this will help but have you tried bleach on it. I think bleach will kill anything, and if its mold and a shower I don't think there is much to worry, but mix it with water like 1/3 bleach 2/3 water all bleach is just not good, if that doesn't seem to work after some strong scrubbing try half and half, but thats as strong as I would recomend.

Where I worked in food services we would sometimes use bleach on the tile floor to clean really rough spots and it seemed to do the trick from time to time, but make sure theres ventalation because the fumes can get to you.

    Two notes here.

    1) My last apartment was with 4 other guys in a college town. Our bathroom was a warzone of mold and such. Being the lazy bastard that I am I went out and bought the automated shower defense system at Wal-Mart. It took about two weeks, no bleach fumes, and did an amazing job at cleaning that crap out.

    2) Another roommate used to clean using a fairly strong (little more than 1/3 bleach) and constantly complain of dizziness and headaches. Then we showed him how the window opened and the complaints stopped.

Try some CLR. Nasty shit, corrosive as fuck-all, but it gets the weird shit out of our shower reliably.

Otherwise you might want to try an abrasive cleaner like Ajax.

Oh, and be careful not to use bleach with other cleaners. Chlorine gas is nothing to fuck around with.

That's all pretty much mold; your roommate's story is bullshit*. Start with an ordinary shower cleaner, and once you've scrubbed off whatever can be removed with that and rinsed it, get any old mold-remover that contains sodium hypochlorite. Spray on, leave five minutes, wipe off and rinse. They usually contain some sodium hydroxide as well, so wear gloves because it'll be rough on your skin and don't wear any clothes you actually like while cleaning, because you'll get little bleachy spots on 'em. I just get the no-name mold remover from the local supermarket and it works fine.

You can also spray it on painted surfaces and just leave it, so if you've got mold stains on the bathroom ceiling that's the way to take care of them.

*unless the stain is actually hair dye or something.

I say give it a good bleaching, or some kind of heavy duty cream cleaner or something. If it goes away, then great, if it doesnt then at least you know its not biological since those strong cleaners will kill and remove nigh on anything that lives.

A good scrubby brush and an abrasive cleanser like Ajax should do the trick for the floor. The black mold around the seams of the shower will probably need some strong bleach cleaner to remove.

EDIT: Oh, and never never never mix cleaning agents.

This is probably the best place for this question. What do you do to clean the inside of the shower curtain? I have two shower curtains (one on the outside with a design and what not, one on the inside of the shower that's just a clear plastic). Anyways, the inside curtain i've noticed has some brown stuff on the bottom of it...a lot of it mainly where the plastic folds and stuff. Is that mold? SHould I just go out and buy a new one or can i clean that?

Ya, its time to get a new shower curtain. Shower curtains have a timeline. New, Newish, Old but useable, Old and stank, and then falling off the pole. Yours is probably just graduating from Old But Useable to Old and Stank.

reddog: Yeah, that stuff on your shower curtain is mold. To clean my shower curtain, I just throw it in the wash (by itself) every few months.

    Zap.

Zap will clean the hell out of anything and everything.

Why? Because it is muriatic acid. And minty fresh. It is the one and only informercial product I will whore out over and I will cry when it goes off the market.

I would recommend the following steps, each a few days apart watching to see how much you clear off - water and a scrub brush ---> clorox clean up with bleach and a scrub brush (not so much bleach as to burn your damned lungs trying to clean in a bathroom) ---> CLR and, guess what? ---> Zap and your friend, the scrub brush.

Since you've obviously got some mildew issues (and the blue stuff looks like soap sticking to a nice mildew ick on the floor) get a daily spray that will cut the stuff down once you knock it back. Vinegar will do this just as well as the expensive shower sprays.

Also when cleaning bathrooms, make sure you got some serious air flow through the place; don't want to pass out or anything. I know they say it on Windex, but those harsher chemicals can mess your shit up pretty bad if you breathe them for too long.
