XP Start Menu

Alright, this has been bothering me on and off since I got my laptop back in October. It's a Dell Inspiron 6400 that came with XP Home. For some reason, whenever I format my drive and install Windows using the disc provided, it doesn't require me to activate Windows... some deal between Dell and Microsoft, I'm thinking. But that's not what's bothering me. The "Recently Viewed Documents" option just isn't there. There's nowhere in the Taskbar customisation options that'll let me enable it, nor is there anything that TweakXP can do.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I just can't enable it, and I really wish I could, because it's easier to recall a document using this method rather than having to go look through a folder for it.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

Nothing's forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten

I... don't think there is one... at least I don't have it on either of my XP computers.

In XP Pro at least you can get it by doing this

Right click on taskbar -> properties -> start menu tab -> customize -> advanced tab -> check the box by recent documents. I seem to recall that being in Home too.

I can't believe I missed that... sigh! Thanks, Tofystedeth.

On a related note, is there a way to disable the recent documents when using the classic style start menu? Is it possible to delete it through the advanced section or will it come back?

If you use the TweakUI Powertoy (147kb) for Windows XP you can start it up and go to the "Explorer" options and uncheck "Allow Recent Document on Start Menu" as well as check "Clear document history on exit".

EDIT: Log off and back into Windows to make this change show up sometimes.
