mp3 software, besides ITunes

So, i'm getting really fed up with itunes, and I want to know what people use, and why I should switch to it.

This isn't an actual poll thread, i'd like genuine discussion about the various programs.

My problem with Itunes: It's bloated, slows shit down, and since I updated it, won't burn cd's (wtf).
I do like the interface, and it's decent level of automation, but i'm just tired of it.

I used winamp for a very long time, but there's got to be something different, hopefully better out there.

annnnnd, go.

    Try MediaMonkey.

It's great software (I know they have a free version) that I use to organize my music and all tag-related stuff.
Foobar's pretty cool too if you're into the whole customization aspect, although it does take a while to get used to.

I used to use winamp exclusively until I got tired of it being a memory hog.

Foobar, it can do everything except the laundry. Not suited for everyone out of the box though.

And Musicbrainz for my tagging/organizing needs.

Surprisingly enough, Windows Media Player 11. I ended up poking around in there for one reason or another one day. The slick interface charmed my pants right off. The album info retrieval system is abysmal, though, so I use The Godfather for that bidness.

I'm still using Winamp, but it seems like it gets slower every time there's an update. I do like its library system though.

Yep, against all odds, I've been pretty much loving WMP11 ever since I tried it. The interface is excellent, and the playlist creation and explorer extensions are much more sane than those in winamp, as well as the program being much more stable for me and no-nonsense than Itunes. The library organization too, is excellent.

My only qualms are the terrible visualizations, lack of ipod support (not so much something they can do a lot about), and a small bit of excessive clutter at the top of the interface (options to rip and burn as main interface buttons next to library and now playing? They should be tucked away into a menu somewhere, right now they're too out in the open.. and the absolutely useless media guide, which I want to be able to remove altogether) -- aside from those, it really is an excellent player.

Well, I have some programs to try out.

Quick question, does anyone remember some media player/organizer that sorted by beat rate, or how mellow.. upbeat a song was? I can't quite remember the rubrick, but it was pretty.. unique

    FOOBAR

Tiny memory footprint, lots of user-created add-ons, plays damn near everything. If it would just play purchased iTunes songs I would use it exclusively.

Every other media player is shit (IMHO, of course ;-))

Foobar is great, if you're willing to put in the time to configure it properly.

Heh, Foobar isn't really that hard to set up

5 minutes, once you have the add-ons you want

Ha! Foobar gave me five ulcers and then I gave up. For the record, I'm not half bad with stuff like this; I'm pretty sure some "columns" plugin or something was giving me the crash.

Foobar is great and all, but in my opinion it's not worth taking all that time to set up something that another program already does straight out of the box. Granted, I use foobar, wmp11, and mediamonkey for my audio needs, occasionally switching between them every couple of weeks. I ended up using a configuration from deviantart which has served me well, but it was still too much of a hassle to merit using all the time.
