Yup, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of these bad boys. Don't forget to clean it while it's hot though, it's hell to get all the junk off if you've left it there overnight.
Make sure you find one with removable plates you can toss in the dishwasher!
Washing the older ones is such a pain in the ass. >.<
The difficulty of cleaning was my main concern, and now that the technology has really pulled through i am going to re-evaluate my stance on Mr. Foreman.
My wife and I got one of these for a wedding gift. Thought it was totally lame. Then I ended up using it 3 times a week or so. They're great for chicken breasts.
We already got a replacement, and we'll have to get another soon (the non-stick has totally worn away), so I need to remember to get the removeable surface.
My school has them banned as apparently a student decided to save money and just hunt the campus ducks and cook them on his George Foreman... needless to say it's clearly the best invention in this century.

Wouldn't banning the ducks make more sense?
Also, yes. Go buy a George. Also buy some good oil with a high smokepoint.
Personally I think they only really work if you're in an apartment. They tend to not get hot enough to really cook things well. I mean, it'll be cooked, but it won't be like a grill or a good broiler.
Definitely a love/hate item. I don't like them, but I've got the space to prep foods in the kitchen as well as an outdoors that I can actually grill in. A burger on a foreman does taste better than a burger in a frypan, though.
I think Hamburgers from the thing are pretty gross and dry, it pushes all the fat out. If your used to big jucy type burgers your better off getting a grill pan or just pan frying them in general.
it's pretty sweet and handy for other things, Grill cheeses and chicken and such, So another "yes" unless you like big jucey burgers.

I agree with the consensus. You absolutely must get the removable plates, and replace them when the non-stick starts to come off in a few years.
Chicken, especially marinated chicken, is where it shines. Cooks it nice, juicy, and with no marinade related flare-ups that can happen in a broiler. If you live in the Upstate NY area and/or know what pork Spiedie is, it does that pretty well, too (although it's still better grilled).
As a bonus, it cooks pretty quickly. I've never had a problem with it not being hot enough. My wife and I liked our basic model enough that we upgraded to a bigger one with the removable plates, and we use it at least once a week now.
what's the biggest indoor foreman you can get with removeable plates
Looks like on the newer models, the removeable plates are a big thing...
Here is the official site though. Looks like about double the size of the original one that is collecting dust on my counter. :P

Everyone's bringing up chicken, but I'll also throw out that the foreman is absolutely awesome for pork chops, and tenderloin. It does a decent job with steak, but burgers are awful.
Curses! The extra large grill doesn't have removeable plates!
Also I could never get sausages to work, on account of roundness. How do you do them?
Just put them in... and cook them? I dunno, we never had a problem. The hinges on the foreman grills tend to have just enough give to them that sausages did fine. We'd only usually do them in the grill for pasta though, and that was only when we didn't have enough time to cook real sauce. ;-)
I also say the grill is awesome. I use mine all the time. It cooks so quickly and i've never had an issue with it not being hot enough. I do eat a lot of chicken and it is awesome for that but i've cooked all kinds of meats (and other things like sandwiches) including fish (salmon steaks) which turned out great.
I think i know what CT means about the sausages. Being round they tend to roll down the grill? I just put them on a diagonal. If they still wont stay, i cook em a little bit laying lengthwise along the grooves, then lay them diagonally once they curl a little. It does the job.
And again, definately get the removable plates. Mine doesnt have them, i bought just when the removable plate model was released because the older one was on a huge clearance sale, but every single time i wash the damn thing i wish i'd just forked over the extra dollars.
So steak doesn't get messed up by one of these? I'm on a scotch fillet kick at the moment, marinated overnight in the fridge, and it'd be nice if I didn't have to screw around with it on the stove.
What's a good price to get them for in Australia, and where?
To be honest, you can probably find them at any kitchen supply store here in America. However, seeing as you are overseas, you might just have an easier time buying it online if that is possible. They seem to be around $50-$150, but that depends on what model/accessories you get along with it. Just spend a bit of time and decide how bit the plate the should be, what features you want, etc.
I have one with the removable/interchangable plates and it's quite awesome. Besides, the regular plates it has two waffle plates so you can use it as a waffle iron, plus a flat one that I typically use for quesadillas.
They come with a recipe book to show you how to make all sorts of awesome things with it. I haven't really delved into it, but flipping through I noticed you can even make chocolate chip cookies... that's just ridiculous.
To those who say they don't get juicy burgers from the foreman: it's all in the prep. I get super juicy burgers out of the foreman if I marinate them properly. The only advantage a proper grill has over the george foreman is the smoked taste from the charcoal. I'd say a gas grill has no advantage.
the GF grill may not give the best flavor, but it sure is the easiest way to cook things for a busy college student.
i've found though that the plastic scraper does a pretty good job of scraping off the gunk, and then you can just wipe down the surface with a wet paper towel to get any remainders.

Thanks, folks.

The removable plates are necessary.

(I own one and was some of the best money I've ever spent)

I made the switch to stainless steel when my wife showed me several articles on how the non stick is supposedly very dangerous to pregnant women.
At the same time, you're eating meat and run the risk of mad cow, salmonella, e coli, etc. so what the hell.
You are going to die regardless, might as well enjoy a nice steak now and then.
So that's a Grunt from me.

So true. Its so damn handy when I dont want to have to light up the grill to get some good chicken breasts.
I also have a "Baby George", which is a chicken spinning thing-a-ma-bob.
